I'll believe it when i see it...
Tbf, there may be a grain of truth in Davies' version of events. It's just possible they'd been stuck auditioning straight white guys all week-end when, just at the last minute, the gay black guy Russell was looking for walked in...

"Ooh, is this the right place, my mighty whitey? Fab-u-lous!" I notice about the only media outlet that is dubious about this genius casting choice (of hiring a black man for a role that was white for 50 years) is Gammon News - ironically it's the 2 gay presenters who've criticised it! What would The Guardian say!?

RTD overuses the word drama. Especially when most of his Doctor Who stuff has the failed ambition to be Rentaghost level comedy.

Just saw Sylvester's video congratulate him on getting the role

McCoy mustered more up gravitas and charisma in that 41 second clip than Jodie has managed in four years, yet NuWho fans still treat him like the butt of a joke. Only a few hours after Gatwa's casting was announced, I saw several "can't be worse than McCoy" jibes in The Graun's comments section. WTF is that about? I can only assume it's jealousy.

Yeah, I've seen comments about McCoy like that before. My Grandad was the same yet I don't think he ever actually watched McCoy in the role. Presumably they just go with the flow instead of actually giving him a go.

Oh it is. Somehow I don't see Pisstaker being hired by Peter Jackson anytime soon...

Russell T. Davies. The Tony Blair of Doctor Who. Not only is he a faux-lefty who abandoned the core ethos of the institution he co-opted for personal ends but under that genial, effervescent facade he's also a shrewd and devious operator who knew damn well that the only way to again cast a male Doctor without having the loonies scream "SEXIST!!" was to cast a black guy. Not a peep...

Oh it is. Somehow I don't see Pisstaker being hired by Peter Jackson anytime soon... No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! It was because of Sylvester McCoy that the show got cancelled in the 80s and intellectual titans like Paul Merton and Jimmy Carr said the show was shit on bland interchangable panel shows like Room 101 or "it's only tv but I like it." That totally haven't either been forgotten about or limped on like a sad old fart no one has pulled the plug on yet, because no one even knows they're still alive. Meanwhile in the real world McCoy's era is not only still making new fans almost 40 years on, but he himself has no only gone on to star in films with Ian McKellan, Christopher Lee, Maggie Q, and Maisie Williams.
