I haven't been able to get on before today as my anti-virus has been blocking the shit out of this place. Seems okay now though. I'm not impressed. Never heard of him, clear boxtick (two boxes at the same time, Davies must have but a nut at that!), and it's all very predictable and thoroughly uninspiring. I doubt - esp with Davies writing - this will turn around my disinterest.

I know Davies has a thing now about gay actors playing gay roles, so maybe he now wants to hint the Doctor could be an LGBT male the same way Jodie hinted at being an LGBT female. Just what I grew up in the 1980s begging they'd do to Dr Who, along with all the surely returning Davies toilet humour(!) All change is good, huh? (The change I'm enjoying is the constant downward one in the viewing figures).

This old Chas & Dave record best sums up my response to the news "Gertcha!"

It's hard to be really excited by the announcement of an actor appearing in a show you're not going to watch regardless. I don't have anything against the actor himself, but I won't support RTD by watching this. I see people are already jumping to conclusions and calling people racist who don't agree with the decision. Doctor Who is 1963-1989 and always will be for me.

I was mildly curious when Jodie was announced and gave it a shot for half of Series 11 before realizing that the show was beyond fixing. I'm not sure I'll ever watch this chap or anyone who comes after him.

I've seen several women complain that this is a step backwards because he isn't a woman of colour. Can't please everyone, can you?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKWqZXm44ckWell that didn’t last long. “I have just love seeing the strides taken in representation, and I think there’s a lot more we could do and there's a lot being done.” Like everyone else I wish no failure on the guy but that sentence has pretty much tanked a lot of peoples hopes.

From what little I've seen, Gatwa seems like a decent enough actor who will without a shadow of a doubt be better than Jodie, and I wish him all the best.
The trouble is that I just can't bring myself to care about NuWho anymore. The Timeless Child arc has done such immense damage to the fundamental spirit of the show that it would have to be retconned out entirely in order for me to even consider giving NuWho another chance.

The trouble is that I just can't bring myself to care about NuWho anymore. The Timeless Child arc has done such immense damage to the fundamental spirit of the show that it would have to be retconned out entirely in order for me to even consider giving NuWho another chance. This is exactly my opinion. I posted this on the Buffy board, so I'll post it here. Smart guy who has been correct in every way since 2013 about what would happen to DW if you pander to the PC mob and don't care about continuity and embrace Paul Cornell's all change is good bullshit said."1/ I don't care about carrying the show on when the Timeless Children and a female Doctor are canon. Erase those things, in fact erase New Who and start with a new 9th Doctor and then we'll talk. (You'd need a hiatus for that, but that's okay as the show is due one after its catastrophic fall in viewers. It kind of makes me bitter that New Who has been allowed to carry on despite being a total flop since really Capaldi's second season whilst better series including the original and Angel were cancelled for less, just because the people that make this are in with the bricks, but hey that's tv for you.)
2/ Don't get RTD in! He is part of an obnoxious clique who took over DW in the 90s when it was off the air, and have never let it go. Him, Moffat, Chibnall ugh. They all think alike and have no ****ing clue how to write true DW. They write a sci fi soap opera, or Buffy neither of which is correct for DW. I'd like to see one writer at least try and update the classic era in a proper way. IE write the Doctor as the Doctor, do a focus on adventures on alien worlds, sci fi, have companions from all over time and space, just update the effects from classic who, and yes by all means include some modern tropes, like maybe a romance between the companions, but make it DW!
3/ This guy just looks like another conventional leading man that RTD can use for straight forward hero stories and make into a romantic lead. The Doctor is supposed to be an eccentric alien who is played by an offbeat character actor. The type that you normally wouldn't see leading a tv show like William Hartnell, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker etc.
I wish the guy luck as he seems like a nice chap, but I'm not sure if I'll be bothering."
