Cobra Kai - Season 6
This first act of the latest season of the hit revival series is an entertaining slow burn which may lack the stakes of previous seasons (at the moment) but is every bit as thrilling in its character development and story. The first act culminates with one of the best episodes of the entire show which delivers a solid, tense cliffhanger as well as the caption "the show will return in November" which made me scream inside. This is how you do a revival series. The difference between this which is so loving of its source material compared to "babes, honey" is so stark. The writer's strike hasn't affected this season at all. It's just as wonderful a throw back as it was when it started. Bring on November!
9/10

Blackadder Goes Forth.
One of the best shows ever. Brilliant humour dripping with cynicism and possibly the best version of Edmund. I much prefer this one because of the First World War setting and the generally slow build up to the inevitable final push. The last episode is one of the most harrowing episodes of a sitcom I've ever seen. There's still some good laughs, but it's quite bleak at the end.

So apparently there's two new Dexter shows coming. Dexter: Original Sin which is a prequel, and Dexter: Resurrection, which seemingly carries on after the 2021/22 one, New Blood. Don't know how I feel about this. The prequel seems like a shitty idea to me, as pointless as most prequels tend to be.
I'm more into the latter, as Michael C Hall is coming back (apparently he's also doing a Young Sheldon-esque voiceover on the prequel), so long as he's really back and he's not some sort of hallucinatory force ghost like Deb was in New Blood. He did imply in the interview that, while seemingly killed off at the end of that (really stupidly), he may have survived the shooting by virtue of the extreme cold (he was left for dead in the snow in an Alaskan town). Also seem to be hearing that it's not just a one-off like New Blood was supposed to be so hopefully they won't be trying to end it and then change their mind every time!
New Blood started off really well but kind of fell apart in the last couple of episodes by virtue of their seeming desperation to get it over with and kill him as fast as possible, resulting in nonsensical plot and character turns that made no sense and were deeply contrived. If we can avoid that... maybe.
Still think the prequel looks shit though.

Blackadder the Third
Probably the second best for me. Ink and Incapability and Sense and Senility are some of my favourite episodes and Rowan is at his quick-witted and sardonic best. The Regency era setting boasts great costume design and the best main set out of all four shows.

Been watching some of the Olympics. Enjoyed the women's kayak as well as the BMX Freestyle and the swimming.

Been watching some of the Olympics. Enjoyed the women's kayak as well as the BMX Freestyle and the swimming. Yes, I saw the women’s shoot-off final. Ours got silver controversially, but the Chilean one we lost to was more of a babe! Been rewatching River, a BBC show from a few years back where the protagonist policeman (played by Stellan Skarsgard) sees hallucinations of dead people, and tries to solve his colleague’s killing. Like a Scandi Noir drama meets The Sixth Sense.

I'm unsure how much of it you have to hit, but our girl definitely got some of the disc at the end. She has a fair case.

Gymnastics were very enjoyable to watch. I get the hype for Simone Biles, but Rebeca Andrade was brilliant today.
Loved the Women's Slalom KX-1 this afternoon too. Nice for Kimberley Woods to get a bronze for Team GB!

The first Blackadder
Love the production values and extensive location footage, but a lot of the jokes don't really land for me. Shame really because visually it's the most impressive of the bunch.

Nice for Kimberley Woods to get a bronze for Team GB! Let’s enjoy the women’s gymnastics whilst we can, before it becomes problematic or something! As for Blackadder 1 I agree. I do enjoy Cook and Blessed in their roles, and it’s suitably spooky and atmospheric, but the dynamic between the 3 protagonists, whilst interesting, doesn’t lend itself to many laughs (except the one when Edmund ends up in the clergy).
