I think Time and the Rani is better than The Caves of Androzani. I also consider The Underwater Menace to be the absolute pinnacle of Sixties Who.

I prefer Romana I to II
Season 6 is a great season and doesn't deserve it's reputation as where Troughton's era declined in quality.
Season 15 is the weakest Tom season
The War Machines is overrated bollocks
Vicki, Barbara and Ian are Hartnell's best TARDIS crew
(NuWho) Series 5 still holds up mostly despite a few clunkers.
As much as I like Paul Mcgann as an actor and his Doctor despite the shit he had to work with, Richard E Grant would've been the ideal Doctor for the 90s for me.

Oh dear LOL I made a mistake. I thought I'd posted this in the favourite Eras thread. Allow me to delete this post and put it in the correct one. Sorry about that.

Delta and the Bannermen is an underappreciated classic.

Ainley is the best Master.

Ainley is the best Master. Is that so unpopular? Survival is usually regarded as one of the best Master stories. Of course political fanatics and cowardly fans will always rank Pissy Missy as the second best after Delgado, (whilst having the cheek to say Ainley made it too panto) and sadly those c*nts are the ones who run the magazines and forums like GB, but among most ACTUAL fans I've noticed that it tends to be a toss up between Ainley or Delgado as to who is considered the best, as it should be.

Hermann Göring was a great man.
Oh, sorry. I forgot that it's just Doctor Who unpopular opinions. My bad.

Time-Flight is clearly the best Master stories. "Sharaz, sharaz tumal. Balor, balor. Sharaz, sharaz tumal balor balor."

Granted I'm out of touch with fandom these days (thankfully) but the last I heard Simm (or Pissy) was the Greatest according to the Modern Crowd, while the classic brigade always went for Delgado and Ainley got little respect from either. Perhaps that's changed, I don't know. But he's always been my favourite.

Perhaps that's changed, I don't know. But he's always been my favourite. Anyone who says Pissy was anything other than a sick joke at the expense of Roger Delgado is either A/ a moron B/ a bullshitter who has a dog in the fight (ie is a mad feminist who would say the first female Master is great no matter what to get gtothe dickless Doctor.) or C/ is a coward who is shit scared of being called a sexist. Either way they destroy their credibility. Ainley is clearly better than any who came after him. He was the last truly great Master. Roberts was okay, and Jacobi could have been amazing. Everything else is a total piss take and should be ignored.

I recall a DWM editorial from the late 2000s praising Simm to the skies while doing down Ainley. It was pretty disgusting, typical New Who shilling.

Season 6 overall is much better than season 4. Really the only two classic stories of 4 are the Dalek stories. Everything else is either average or crap. 6 meanwhile has the wonderfully offbeat Mind Robber, the classic Invasion, and the epic War Games. Even Seeds of Death is much better than The Moonbase, Macra Terror and Faceless Ones. I also think the core dynamic of Zoe and Jamie is better than the overcluttered TARDIS team of season 4. I don't think Vicki, Ian and Barbara being Hartnell's best companions is an unpopular opinion though. Susan may be more iconic, but most people see her as a bit crap, which she was LOL. Vicki had a lot more proactive role. The idea of Matt's first season being the best of NuWho is also not unpopular. It is unquestionably the most popular series of the revival. It's very well regarded among Nu Who fans. Even Claudia Boleyn loves it. Meanwhile among old series fans it seems to be the only one that is accepted by most fans. On here, NuHive, ArcHive, even the very original Hive forum, not to mention Planet Mondas it was the only one that was liked. I also agree that Paul McGann isn't a very good choice for the role. Again not a bad actor by any means, but he's just too mainstream and straightforward. He isn't a disastrous choice like Jodie, and he didn't turn it into a total conventional hero like Tennant, but overall I'd prefer a character actor. Grant probably would have been better, but for the 90s, either Tim Curry or Dylan Moran would be my guys for the Doctor.

The Power Of Kroll is not only not that bad (and not racist) but is actually one of the more fun little adventures from the Key To Time season. Not perfect, and Philip Madoc is a bit wasted as Fenner, but Tom's enthusiasm is engaging and he & Tamm are particularly sparky.
