You'd easily get my vote to bin the NuWho section.

Loved this one. I think the ending would have stung harder if Ricky had made it through because he was acting more in the vein of a courageous companion and there were times I caught myself thinking he'd make a fine Doctor.

This episode should have been all from the POV of the woman. I have a feeling that's what RTD originally wanted but got cold feet at the last minute.

I'm glad he didn't because it would have come across as his second attempt at Blink (the first being 73 Yards).

I just can't get over how underbaked everything in this era is. What are the slugs? Are they robots, organic, biomechanical? Where do they come from? Are they being controlled by the computers or have they hijacked the system? We literally get one line from the Doctor "I think the AI grew to hate you" and that's it. No further context.

Side characters written as a stereotype and one dimensional. Characters reflect what a Daily Mail reader views Millennials.
I just can't buy that even American society, the dumbest and most ignorant of all cultures in humanity, could develop into a society so dumb that they have to ask if they NEED TO f*ckING PEE.
I just can't suspend my disbelief to enjoy it. It's that f*cking dumb.
And then we get that dark ending. I'm not even shocked because it is clear RTD was writing American society as the model of that episode, so you saw it a mile coming. It's what a yank would do.
So in a way, RTD wrote a parody of the ignorant yanks and showed them to be the evil bastards they can be. How is this meant to win over the same assholes funding this shit.

A bunch of shallow horrible people, who you want to die. Oh no, they're going to die! Why should I care? Why is their epic bombastic music playing? Why have a bunch of Love Island contestants decided to go on a boat? Bad Wolf was more coherent. RTD needs to get someone else to write his last 20 minutes. Yet another small fart after building up to an earthquake episode. Very much in the Bidmead "first draft stuff" section of nupoo.

Damn, I relapsed.
Good idea but not well executed. The fact that the main character is so unlikeable to the point where Ncuti seems nice in comparison is where it all falls down for me. I liked the Ricky September revelation, though. Unfortunately the whole thing is just harsh which I guess is the point, but why should we care about anyone? I knew the main girl was racist. It was clearly obvious from the get go. I did feel sorry for the Doctor at the end. He should have had the balls to tell them to f*ck themselves instead of crying.

I still think this, like the last episode, was better than Moffat's Boom rubbish from a few weeks ago. I guess I just prefer Russell's writing even when it's not very good.

I kinda respect the ballsyness of actually making the Doctor's race mean something, but other than that it was very obvious.

It was quite sickening. I think Lindy is the most unlikeable character in a long time. Ricky September, who I originally thought would be some sort of air head, ended up being the hero of sorts.
I still find the Doctor getting the hots over a teenage/young adult influencer a bit bizarre.

I still find the Doctor getting the hots over a teenage/young adult influencer a bit bizarre. Really creepy yeah. I think it says he's 25 (and the actor is definitely older lol) so it's hardly illegal, but it's just another typical woke double standard. You wouldn't in a million years hear him fawning over a woman. The Doctor being canonically gay now is just...retch.

I'm starting to notice that most of the stuff is hardly any worse than the Capaldi/Whittaker era. I don't like this era, but there's potential with some of the storylines. 73 Yards I think is an example of them getting it right. As Yak mentioned, things about this era are very half-baked and I think Dot and Bubble ends up being a bit flat because of that. I miss two part stories to be honest.

Apparently the lead lady character was meant to be likeable, at least at the start. That's why this doesn't work. You have to have RTD's appalling worldview to think that. That narcissistic, social media obsessed lightweights are a great bunch of folk. So it comes as a huge surprise that they have act selfishly and are horrible people. In fact, to even have that point of view, you have to be as horrible as the characters you're writing about.
