Burrunjor meetings Chibs: "You... became a Doctor Who showrunner?" "Sure! You've never been?" I'm back from the dead. I was such an obnoxious c*nt they sentenced me to the worst torturer in hell, but unfortunately that was Mazikeen and I thought I'd gone to heaven, so then they sentenced me to the second best torturer and it turned out to be Alti, so they sent me back here until they can decide what to do with my soul. Just as well I have to finish Two Doors Down.

One thing I do want to make clear is that whilst I jest about how Missy praise from official fandom does make me feel like Frank Grimes IE the only sane man in an insane world. (Even more when she does all of the things JNT got eviscerated for to a far, far, far greater extent.) I actually don't sympathise with Frank Grimes in that episode of the Simpsons at all LOL.
I must be the only person to have that take, but for me I see it like this.
Yes Grimey's life was awful and I can sympathise with THAT, but he was a bitter, jealous, hateful, vindictive, Ayn Randian nasty piece of work. To start with he had 0 idea about Homer's life beyond the superficial. Homer actually had a childhood almost as bad as his, (his mother abandoned him, his father outright abused him.) Furthermore Homer is arguably disabled, suffering multiple physical conditions that make him barely able to look after himself. Also Homer above all else was trying to be nice to Grimes, and not all of Homer's accomplishments were through sloth and ignorance. He had a "beautiful wife" because he was a nice guy and genuinely loving, he also won a grammy because he was genuinely a good songwriter and singer (who got discovered playing around clubs.) I might add despite having been an astronaut and grammy winner, Homer is STILL living pay check to pay check showing it hasn't always worked out for him either. He's often been screwed out of money and fame for things he did due to the crazy world of the Simpsons, like the inanimate Carbon Rod getting the praise.
Meanwhile Grimes acts like it's a bad thing that someone like Homer, who can't look after himself isn't just left to starve to death, and he thinks f*cking America of all places is too soft in terms of the safety nets it provides people! He also doesn't direct his anger at the real root of the problem, Mr Burns and others like him who are the real bastards who leech off of people. Also I might add everyone else at the plant was crazy too. Again Burns and Smithers hired someone like Homer, and the likes of Lenny and Carl are just as incompetent, (they regularly sneak off with Homer for drinks and didn't notice that he was about to drink acid!)
That said Homer is kind of getting a taste of his own medicine for being a dick like that to Flanders out of jealousy LOL, but still doesn't excuse Frank.

Though it wasn't as clear at the time, in hindsight it's difficult not to see Missy as a mere trial run to the Doctor's eventual gender swap. I don't hate her because I don't really care, but the fans who almost always go after Ainley when praising her annoy the hell out of me. Ainley did cackle and sometimes act like a panto villain with his "ho ho ho" laughing, but he did have a sense of menace to him. His greatest performance is in Survival where he's barely clinging on to his sanity. Can anyone imagine Missy giving a chilling performance like that or delivering that "We shall become like animals" speech as good as him?

I love the golden era of the Simpsons, but I'm not sure Homer's Enemy would be in my top 20 let alone my top 10. This is where "Jerkass Homer" slowly starts to rear his head although not to the extent where he becomes a totally different person to the Homer of the early years. I do however agree that he's not to blame for everything that happens. Grimes signs Homer up for that kid's model competition to humilate him. There's even an episode where Grimes has a son who tries to kill him as well so the family clearly has issues of its own.

same, it was very obvious
on a personal note, I found it very annoying that Moffat backtracked on the Master's redemption arc in End of Time, only to then redo it (and in a much weaker way) in The Doctor Falls, with the added implication that Simm's version was irredeemable.
