Some lovely tidbits from Capaldi: "I wanted him to be more distant, more difficult to be around because I thought he was an alien. I didn’t think he was a guy. I didn’t think he was just someone you would meet somewhere. Because when I grew up, Doctor Who wasn’t like that. He wasn’t a person you would meet in the street. He was a weird alien creature."
My Goodness, Capaldi seems to understand the character of the Doctor far better than anyone who's worked on the show since 2005. And to think they replaced him with a giddy, gormless woman who had no idea what she was doing... (Thanks for posting these quotes, rushy).

It also seems to defy RTD's thesis, which was that the Doctor should be a man in the street, hence why he gave Eccleston his leather jacket and working-man persona. Moffat definitely leaned away from this in his run so it's interesting to see the contrast between these two ways of presenting the Doctor.

Agreed when we look at what we could have had with Capaldi, an actor who understood the show to such an extent and had such a love for it What a damn shame.

"Moffat definitely leaned away from this" is one of the reasons why I prefer the Moffat era over the Davies years ( but only just - I can't abide either of them). I simply think the idea of trying to turn the alien Doctor into a more down-to-earth, relatable, working class hero is ludicrous and a betrayal of who the character is supposed to be (which is probably why I disliked Eccelston's Doctor so much).

Another great episode that has garnered great reviews in the media. Tennant and Tate superb and a wonderful performance by Patrick-Harris as The Toymaker. The tension was great in the middle part of the episode which had a real sense of mavity to it. The bi-generation isn't to my personal taste, would rather just a straightforward regeneration but I can live with this. Overall 8/10.

I thought the slight racism was a nice touch. It's somewhat relieving that it's acknowledged slightly rather than just presented as normal that Indian people roamed London in the early 20th century without facing any sort of persecution; unlike in Capaldi's run with with the Thin Ice episode and that horrible speech he gives about it "not being so different from your time".

He doesn't mind culturally appropriating our show to push his deranged worldview. Oh I forgot, it's always one rule for us and another for them.

We? We are the Hive. As in Gospel Truth. You see? No NuWho simps. While the rest of the world downloads from Disney and the BBC, we, we have got freedom. You're talking to Gallifrey Base's Most Wanted, but target Number One is Davies, and we are going to bring him down.

No, American culture is what has destroyed western culture, and we should not pander to them anymore. I want to see Europe break away from those c*nts and remember that we have our own culture, style, and ways, and should celebrate that. Americanisation is the worst thing to happen in modern history. f*ck everything American.
