I'm thinking should we maybe turn this place into a sci fi discussion thread or something, since we're all pretty tapped out on Doctor Who? Obviously still keep a section for it, but it's just that well none of us really plan to watch Ncuti. I certainly don't. I didn't even watch all of the Tennant specials. We also might get more people if it's just general sci fi and fantasy?
What do you think?

Not a bad idea, the other few forums I'm on are like that anyway. There's nothing much left to say about New Poo. It's deader than RTD's brain cells.

This was absolute shit. Far worse than any of the 60th specials. Possibly Russell's worst episode

I liked it, it reminded me of a decent season four Buffy episode, and Ncuti has a great command of the role, Millie sold the urgency of a kidnapped foundling, Anita's character has a good flavour of mystery about her (is she who picked up the Master's tooth?), I liked that it played into manipulating and challenging the themes of luck and coincidence, only real drawback was the Goblins barely appeared beyond their budget-blowing musical number and they were easily defeated by atomic mittens. There was Davina cringe as well.

Okay, I relented and watched it, admittedly the bit where Nc*nti and his blond bint broke into song was funny, I wouldn't say it was the worst ever Fathead episode, but yeah, it was pure Disney cheese.
I'd say it was possibly a smidgeon better than that Giggle episode. Okay the Goblins all singing and dancing was utter shit, but at least it didn't have an iconic character acting a c*nt to the Spice Girls.
As for Nc*nti? His delivery is well weird. I'm pretty sure he will carry the role okay in this, whatever it is, but is it Doctor Who?
Hell no, of course it isn't, and coming from Fathead I wouldn't expect it to be.
It was complete Disney cheese.
No other way of describing it.
3/10 or possibly 4/10 if I'm feeling generous because at least Angie from EastEnders carried a bit of intrigue.

My family suckered me into watching it. I knew there was an issue when I started becoming nostalgic for watching the Christmas Invasion in 2005. I mean, if episodes like that are starting to look good in comparison...
Ncuti's delivery is very strange indeed. It might be the accent actually, but I'm finding it hard to warm to him. Gibson isn'ttoo bad to be fair and there's a least a bit of mystery surrounding her. Davina McCall is cringe, probably even worse than the goblins for me.
Overall a 2/10 for me.

Of course, I don't wish harm on her real life but I did initially think that her getting killed by a Christmas tree in the episode was a bit of surprising and welcome black humour from RTD. Of course he was never going to leave it like that, though.

Does anyone outside of the UK even know who Davina is? I certainly don't. I had no idea she wasn't just a character. Didn't mind her, although of course the writing was shit ("we couldn't find your biological parents, anyway, have you had any random accidents lately? I'm connecting my own hang-ups with your for absolutely no reason and being exceptionally unprofessional because why not")

The Star Beast was something they actually tried to pass off as an anniversary special... and it's less coherent and respectable than any other Christmas episode they've ever done. I'd rather see the Narnia Androzani one again. Or even Mysterio.

I'd name A Christmas Carol, The Husbands of River Song and Twice Upon a Time as my three favourites.
I barely remember the original Russell ones, although my mother is a diehard Voyage of the Damned fan for some reason. I'll probably end up rewatching it for that reason LOL

I remember how excited I was by the Series 3 teaser at the end of it.
