I've come to the conclusion that I think the only way to watch this series is to not compare it at all with the Classic Series, not even one bit.
It's like trying to compare Gremlins with the Exorcist or Evil Dead.
Or trying to compare ET with Alien.
Or trying to compare Scooby Doo with Hammer Horror films.
It's just a dumbed down spin-off using some iconography from the classic series stripped right the way down for braindead dribbling cretins who are barely above the human cabbage grade on the IQ scale.
Perfect for turning your brain off to and letting wash over you to kill off some brain cells, but absolutely f*cking useless as being a continuation from the Classic Series.
Even the TVMovie was less americanised and dumbed down.
and yes, even Capaldis worst episodes look like Hinchcliffe compared to this Mickey Mouse shcmaltzy cheesefest.
The only thing it has going in its favour is that it isn't Jodie gurning around in her paedo morksuit.

I just saw it. I felt nothing, sadly.
Not offended, not excited.
Just bored.

It just felt really weird and empty, like it was all set in a liminal space. Possibly the weirdest Doctor Who episode I've ever seen. Ncuti was alright, I won't lie. Millie was a plank of wood basically. Is Anita Dobson the new Master? Maybe we'll get a musical number with Brian May.

Russel confirms on the i-player commentary the scenes with the Snowman head falling on Ncuti and the conversation with the police officer were Disney-mandated. They tested the episode on focus groups and they thought the Doctor should be more visible before he's introduced to Rubi

It's just another TV product that's focus-grouped to death rather than a legitimate artistic vision.

I didn't watch it. I probably would have had a worse Christmas if I had.
However I did see someone online say that it had 4.7 million viewers. If true that is absolutely pathetic for a Christmas special. Its goose is cooked no doubt about that if that's all it could manage for basically a first Doctor story AND a Christmas special. One wonders what Ncuti's viewers will be by the end of his series. Nothing to bail RTD out this year. No anniversary specials, return of old monsters who've been run into the ground and bastardised, and no new Doctors. Honestly I'm not going to bother watching it all unfold as it could get rather ugly as the fans lash out.

Overnights are 4.73 M, third on the night behind Strictly and King Chuck's speech. It's the first time Doctor Who has also been the number one scripted drama on Christmas Day.
The Jodie-narrated animated short Tabby McTat was in last place at number ten.

I continue my streak of not watching an episode since Jodie took over, but glad for those who did watch, there was at least something to entertain you on christmas day.
I myself am enjoying utilising I-Player to fill in the few missing Classic Who stories I hadn't peviously watched. Regardless of the fact I should probably be rationing these to last me another 20 years or so, until we get an entirely new reboot.

4.7 is laughably bad no matter how you try to spin it. Just can this shit already.

I read an interview with Ncuti in the Daily Mail today, where he said he successfully auditioned for the part by taking his shoes off. I thought I'd misread it the first time...

4.7 is laughably bad no matter how you try to spin it. Just can this shit already. Ncuti's first series isn't starting until May either. The summer time slot which is the death slot. That's where they buried Primeval season 5 after the 4th series had flopped badly in the winter slot. Looks in all honesty like exactly the same thing is happening to DW as Primeval. Both were axed (though in Primeval's case its first axing was lack of money, NOT bad viewers. ) Both however were given a reprise when someone else swooped in and funded them, hoping to cash in on the fanbase and popularity. There was also an American company desperate to cash in on it too in both cases, and such was their confidence, two series were made at once. However in both cases the fans and audience were gone. In Primeval's case it was because it was a relatively new property and therefore hadn't built up an audience for long enough the way classic who had, and it hadn't had time to become a big cult favourite like Star Trek. DW however well it basically drove its audience away. As a result the revivals, the 60th specials and Primeval season 4 were absolute turkeys in terms of viewers and the rest were dumped quietly so the humiliation of sinking so much into this big property wouldn't be too great. Still technically Primeval lingered on for a few more years only because they'd made so many at once (which again allowed the backers to save face somewhat,) and new who will be the same, but basically much like Primeval in 2011, DW is dead. I think Ncuti saying that he doesn't know what he will be doing beyond his second year confirms no new series will be made after that like Primeval.

I hope so, honestly. It's embarrassing. I don't know what's so difficult about making this show properly - they managed it for twenty six f*cking years- but since no one seems to either want to or be capable of it, ffs let it die.

If you don’t count the trans woman in Ruby’s band then I guess he was.
