‘The Sea Devils’ ep 2: Nice resolution to the cliff-hanger…They’re quite fleet of foot these sea devils, not that common for a Dr Who monster (yes, I’m looking at you Ogron). Roger looking as suave as ever in his naval get up. Swordfight only good because of the quips really. Seems a bit out of character for the Master to throw a knife, but I guess they needed to strengthen his evil credentials after all the niceties. 4/5

‘The Sea Devils’ ep 3: f*cking lengthy recap. Exteriors looking very good in this episode. Briant’s nailing the direction and given the episode is mainly standard exposition stuff that’s important. It’s funny that the Naval ‘secret service’ thought the team had somehow stolen and revealed their =nuclear submarine secrets from the way the submarine models were rigged up – they are pretty convincing though. Excellent cliff-hanger. 4/5

Finished Greatest Show last night. Such an imaginative tale with striking visuals and atmospheric music. I agree that Mags is gorgeous although I'm more of a Flowerchild kind of guy. Shame she gets killed off so soon. I also like the creepy Chief Clown and Captain Cook. The Doctor walking away from the explosion at the end of part four is one of the most iconic moments of the entire era and Bellboy's death is wonderfully disturbing. I will definitely be adding this one to my DVD collection next week.

It's been so long since I saw it but it's such a haunting tale, so many memorable images.

I might do an evil Clown thread. I like them so much.

As Maxil says he's one just one of a multitude of memorable characters in the story.

‘The Sea Devils’ ep 4: Neat trick with the sonic screwdriver to set off the bombs – all went downhill from here with that implement haha. It’s weirdly captivating despite the pedestrian pace of Hulke’s tale. Lot of deaths and nicely done to do/not show Trenchard’s demise. Interesting that he’s had his ‘patriotism used as a weapon’ as Doctor puts it…Jo’s outfit here manages to be dapper and appropriate given the steps and ropes and climbing she has to do. Good cliff-hanger shot too, still keeping my attention, 4/5

‘The Sea Devils’ ep 5: not sure what it is with the long recaps for this story, there was padding enough in the plot anyway! Good idea to have that nice down-shot on Katy as the cliff-hanger given how obvious it actually was – she’s looking great in it for sure. Boddey is supreme as the politician – mind you he’d played tonnes of these types of roles since the 1940s. I’d forgotten Roger was in this until his sudden appearance in this episode haha. Love that the ‘attack’ just seems to them firing randomly into open sea, wtf. It’s a packed episode, I assume production reasons meant none of this could be spread across eps 4 and 5 to spice up 4…ho-hum. One of Pertwee’s better rants at authority figures here though. Really enjoyed this one, 5/5

‘The Sea Devils’ ep 6: The standard trope of 70s Who Master stories has reared its head I see, i.e. he needs the Doctor’s help in the end (or some collaboration happens). Some excellent Manning butt shots, thanks Michael B. ‘Output jack in the input socket’…always happens to me. Seriously. Fight scenes are pretty good. They never really got water submersion on the beach right until Fenric did they in Who…even here the Sea Devils going in looks weird, the Marshmen in ‘Full Circle’ are pap etc. And poor Maggie’s drowning scene in ‘Fury from the Deep’. Interesting precursor of ‘Warriors from the Deep’ with the 'is the Doctor moral for destroying the base?’ question…nice if expected escape by Roger at the end…4/5

‘The Mutants’ ep 1: opens like a Monty Python sketch. Very atmospheric opening, good costumes. Set up is intriguing enough and sets are cool. Mutants wanting independence, just like the motherland ah. Palmer excellent as ever…good cast generally so far. Nice to see Chris Coll back after his stint on ‘Seeds of Death’ too. Quality cliff-hanger, decent stuff…3/5
