If they ever make NuWho editions of the Collections on Blu ray I'm going to badger them to make 20 minute versions of each episode. They're so eager to get the scissors out for the classic series anyway they might as well have a go cutting NuWho to shreds.

Flux: Chapter Five - Survivors of the Flux
The return of UNIT and Kate, a reference to Osgood, Nicholas Courtney's voice and Sontarans! I was quite entertained by this episode although if you don't listen to every bit of dialogue you're going to end up confused. I don't think even Chibnall understands it. That said, it's a fun episode with plenty of callbacks (for TruWho and NuWho fans alike) and a real sense of scale that has been consistent throughout Series 13. Only drawback is the Timeless Child lore which is incredibly misguided and silly. It's a nice set up to the finale, though.
8/10

Only drawback is the Timeless Child lore which is incredibly misguided and silly. See, even the smallest reference to that stuff is just an absolute, instant deal-breaker for me and always will be. I don't discount the possibility that you're right about Flux being an improvement on the rest of Chibnall's era. I wouldn't know because I haven't seen it. Anything that ties into that plotline to any extent simply falls outwith my understanding of what Doctor Who is.

The Woman Who Lived Maisie Williams is well fit. The story itself isn't that special, but it's held together by Williams and Capaldi and their strong chemistry. The setting also adds a bit of gloss to it with the castles and old-looking houses. It sort of reminds me a bit of the Blackadder episode "Amy and Amiability" in some ways with the highwayman and Me using a man's voice when robbing people. Fun stuff. Not great, but pleasant enough. It helps when your main actress looks like: yummy af

Twice Upon a Time
Hardly the worst Moffat script, but at the same time it might just be his most uneventful one. I suppose that's the idea, but it feels less like a romp and more like an epilogue that comes across as being more dour than it should have been. Capaldi's constant correcting of the First Doctor (who just doesn't feel right) is neither smart nor endearing, highlighting Moffat's lack of understanding that the First Doctor is not actually from the Sixties. Making him out to be a man of his time makes no sense. In the end I think Jodie's brief appearance is the only moment of joy in the whole thing, for me at least.

I'm still confused about Bradley's stilted line delivery.

It's not even bad. The callbacks are lovely, the bit about the Brig's Grandfather is sweet and the way it ties into Christmas at the end is nicely done without being over the top about it. Bill is great (definitely suits Capaldi more than Clara) and Capaldi gives another great performance. Even the regeneration scene is quite strong although the "be kind" stuff has been utterly ruined by the worst people in fandom. It's odd how a speech about kindness is now the mantra of shitty people. I do love Jodie at the end, though. Yes, you are brilliant. I see Gold couldn't be bothered to give her a proper theme at the end and just used the ancient "woooo woooo woo woo" Eccleston rubbish. I wish I liked it more, but at least it isn't smug like some of his other scripts.

The two things I like about Twice is that
1) It doesn't rehash a previous regeneration story (The Doctor Falls is a better episode, but it would've been a retread of Time of the Doctor)
2) It's got a cozy relaxed atmosphere to it. I can put it on anytime and just watch Capaldi geek out over all the First Doctor stuff.

The only good thing I can say about it is the gorgeously recreated original Tardis set, and the first sight of the First Doctor. It's just when they start regurgitating the script that it all goes wrong....

NuWho regeneration stories are usually tension-free affairs with the exception of Parting of the Ways. Even Power of the Doctor, which I adore, isn't the most suspenseful episode ever made. Nothing really beats The War Games and Caves when it comes to edge of the seat drama.

Face the Raven Isn't the setting just Diagon Alley? I love it either way. The script is one of the better ones from the Capaldi era and probably my favourite of the loose trilogy that closes out Series 9. Oh, and by the way, Me is on another level to Clara. I really do love Clara (more so in Series 7), but Maisie Williams is one of the best actresses I've seen in NuWho. She's obviously gorgeous but her performances are so good too. Why couldn't she have been a companion? What a babe. Anyway, good episode. Not just for Me but for the glossy production design too. Very Harry Potter. 8/10

You need to watch The New Mutants, Maxil. She gets it on with a girl in that.
