I suppose the only highlight is the thought of Me making Clara forget all about Danny Pink in endless steamy nights of fun in the TARDIS bedroom.

Now I'd have watched THAT spin-off...

World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
I watched the first part a few months ago and I quite liked it, but I felt the NuWho "comedy" ruined what I thought was quite a dark and haunting atmosphere. On rewatching it again in order to refresh my memory before the second part I've come to the conclusion that the brilliant cliffhanger and the harrowing scenes involving the patients make the episode slightly better than mostly everything else around this time. The Doctor Falls is fine too, but again there's some really silly (and perverted) stuff in there that is at odds with the sad and weighty story the episode is trying to tell. A big no for the Master getting an erection, but a big yes for making the Cybermen a bigger threat than usual. In the end I'd probably give it an 8. I certainly don't think it's the second best story ever made but if the show ended here I think it would have made for a decent finale to the whole show.
EDIT: It would have been so lovely to see the 80s Cybermen with their Nemesis guns. I would have forgiven literally everything. We don't even get a mention of anything 80s Cybermen related.

A same sex kiss? But I thought RTD broke new ground in 2024 by giving us the first on screen same sex kiss in "Rogue!" That's what all the critics were saying. I guess they were crying so hard during this scene that they just didn't see it.

The Vanquishers
A somewhat messy end to Flux, but still a better finale than both Hell Bent and Empire of Death. There are several positives including the Sontarans being the main villains and luring both the Daleks and Cybermen into a deadly trap. Mostly everyone gets a happy ending except the professor (the actor played Hugo Lang in TruWho). It's a nice finale where mostly everything is tied up and you get far less of a feeling of "is that it?" compared to Empire.
I suppose the corner shop scene is really stupid, but if a Sontaran going crazy for chocolate is the worst thing about the episode then it's not really bad especially compared to Cyber Brig and the Timeless Child reveal. It's a good final chapter to what I consider to be a strong series. Definitely needed a bit more polish in certain areas, but worth watching all the same.
7/10

Church on Ruby Road
Urgh, this is absolutely awful. I don't know why I bothered. I can't imagine Joy to the World being half as bad as this turd.

Time and the Rani I hadn't seen this for two and a half years which is a long time for me not to watch a story I love. Only minutes into was I reminded why I adore this story so much in the first place. So silly, but so wonderfully entertaining. Visually it absolutely trumps the previous season. It's well filmed but also boasts some terrific special effects, namely those impressive bubble traps. The whole look of the show is different compared to the rest of the 80s, but it feels fresh and exciting. There's great stuff on the way and while Time and the Rani may not be a proper Cartmel era story in the general sense it's still a step in the right direction in terms of direction, music and the first appearance of my personal favourite Doctor. Really have a lot of fun with this one and I would 100% take it over the Gatwa story I suffered through beforehand. Pip and Jane Baker completely own you, Russell. 8.5/10
