Flux: Chapter Two - War of the Sontarans
The best NuWho Sontaran episode bar none. One half is a Crimean war adventure with Mary Seacole and the other is an alien invasion story set in Liverpool. The Sontarans are awesome here and actually feel like a threat after years of being a joke in the Moffat era. Flux is very flawed as a whole, but I can't fault the ambition here. This chapter is everything I want from Who: drama, humour, adventure and action. I think this ranks among the best of the Whittaker era.

The Lazarus Experiment
This is supposed to be bad apparently, but I enjoy every minute of it. That run around in the cathedral is pure Doctor Who. I also like the line, "some people do more in twenty years than others do in eighty." How can anyone say that a fun monster of the week adventure like this is worse than Love and Monsters or The Idiot's Latern?

Once, Upon Time
I've watched this twice now and I understand it more than I did before. It is a bit messy, but I appreciate the non-linear structure of the thing. The episode also throws in the Weeping Angels, Daleks and Cybermen. Unfortunately a legion of the latter are easily disposed of by a woman in her 20s. Why are they always so underpowered in the show? The woman in question is really likeable, but she feels more like a Disney Star Wars protagonist than a Doctor Who one. Still, the episodes delivers some fun dialogue and a few thrills. Definitely the weakest of the Flux series so far but enjoyable.

Legend of the Sea Devils
Not horrible, just a bit choppy. I do like the lighting and general look of the thing, but the plot feels like a first draft. It really pisses me off that there's a mountain of excuses as to why the Doctor can't be with Yaz, but he's quite happy for a guy he just met to jump his bone in Rogue. Poor Yaz.

Actually, Russell can f*ck right off. What an insult to Yaz. The Doctor spends THREE seasons with a woman who clearly thinks the world of her, has saved her life on so many occasions and has been there for her without question. Ncuti's version spends TWENTY minutes with an irritating bloke who is so devoid of charisma it's scary and he snogs the bugger and has a massive cry over him when he goes.
f*ck you.

The NHS waiting list is swarming with ex-Nuwho Doctors. It's the lack of internal consistency...

Don't forget the guy the Doctor is all over kills people for money and tried to burn the Doctor alive too. Why did the Doctor like him? He's hot.

Revolution of the Daleks
This is one I actually watched at the time albeit a day late. Like Resolution it's perfectly enjoyable with some nice little call backs. I'm not really sure Captain Jack needs to be there, but it's nice seeing him back all the same. Trump parody Jack Robinson returns from Arachnids and I've always found him more funny than annoying. The Dalek action is exciting as you'd expect with the famous bronze design making a return after being absent from Resolution. I do think Resolution is slightly better, but this is still a fun Dalek story and better than the ones shat out between 2010-2017.

Village of the Angels An absolute modern classic and anyone who thinks otherwise is a loser Seriously, this is great Who. A creepy wet village at night, the 1960s, the best use of the Weeping Angels since Blink and a ton of scary moments. The photography is sublime and the script does a good job at telling both the story and the Flux side of things without getting too complex or messy. I can't help but feel that Who has regressed since RTD took over again. In Flux we had such ambition, but apart from several stand out episodes Season 1 lacks the sense of scale. You really feel the effects of a devastated universe here, far more than you do in "Empire of Death" where there are no consequences. Overall, a true masterpiece of NuWho. Flux is definitely my favourite series since the days of Tennant. 10/10

I watched the Looking for Dursley documentary on the Season 25 Blu ray. A loving look at a charming, talented and kind young man who was cruelly taken, like so many others in the Gay community, by AIDS. I've always been fond of Dursley's performance in Remembrance and I agree with everyone in the documentary that he was a good and charismatic enough actor to really go places. Sophie's glowing interview about him was so lovely. I never knew Nicola Bryant knew him or the fact that she was the one that brought him to the attention of JNT himself. I feel quite sad hearing what a beautiful and larger than life guy he was. It's so horrible to think he was battling a disease around the age I'm at now.

The War Games - Episodes 1-6
Easily the best Sixties adventure and a highlight of 60s television in general. The early episodes are my favourite where it's still unknown to the characters that it isn't really 1917. Episodes 1-3 are the closest we get to a First World War story in the classic series.
I'm surprised I never once realized on previous viewings that the scientist War Lord guy is the night club owner who gets murdered by Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me. I also got a bigger surprise when I found out that he's still alive in real life! Brilliant stuff.

Had a fun time with The Shakespeare Code last night. Very amusing and makes a great use of witches in the show. The lead witch is rather sexy without her makeup on. I also think Gareth Roberts injects some decent comedy moments into it. I quite like this exchange:
"You know Back to the Future?"
"The film?"
"No, the novelization. Yes, of course the film!"
It is a bit silly as a whole, but I find a lot to enjoy in this episode and it's a lot better than Unicorn and the Wasp.
8/10

I watched some Silver Nemesis extras on the Blu ray. There's a short piece on "Point on View" (hosted by Anne Robinson) where a fan writes in to tell her that the calculations on when the comet would hit the Earth were wrong due to a switch in calendars. They're right, but I honestly can't help but wonder where Doctor Who fans get their "obsessive" tag from There's also an interview with JNT where the interviewer calls Who fans "Whonites" and from this day on I'm replacing "Whovians" with it.

Saw the special edition of The Happiness Patrol last night. It was... alright. The new fx were nice for what they were, but while some of the new footage was quite nice, much like The Five Doctors SE only served to make the story slower and duller. Probably stick with the original from now on....
