The problem with that version is that it starts off perfectly fine and tricks you into thinking it's going to be good. It's when they get to Part Three they start to f*ck it all up. The silly heist style escape scene is probably all Ben Cook's doing. It completely destroys the tone of the original. And Mark Ayres, my second favourite composer of the series, needs to go away with his "updated" score.

The animation of the characters is not great, and the likenesses are the worst yet. Steven's expression seems to be permanently stuck on 'smelling a fart'.... but the rest of it isn't quite as bad as I'd feared. It's easy to see why they chose this one to be more experimental. I don't think I'll exactly be a fan of it as an animation though. I doubt if I'll bother watching it again. It IS a very imaginative story though. I did find it hard to get through on audio only when it was released on CD. You do need visuals of one sort or another to get the best out of it. Not had chance to look at the recon and spruced up episode yet. I'm saving the best 'til last. This is virtually identical to my take, having watched this yesterday. The facial animations don’t work well in the slightest. Everyone looks bafflingly gormless and the 3D animation style would not work in the slightest for a more quotidian story, as already proven by the laughably disastrous Web of Fear attempt. That said, the actual animated environments and wide-shots were all much better and a little more dynamic than I expected. Certainly more tolerable than the odious Web of Fear Episode 3 animation. Yes, that's by far the best thing about it. The characters themselves just look terrible, and similarly, the 3D works for well for everything but the characters. It's mixed bag, but they are notably not very good at conveying actual people yet.

"See that screen? That's going to be your FACE!" I still find it hard to believe that Levine isn't just a caricature persona that he's made up. But I have it on good authority from previous Hivers Biroc and Bill who have both met him, and attested to the fact that he's just 'like that'. All the time. In real life as well as online. I feel like it would be fascinating to read his psychiatric reports. lol Apparently, he comes from a very wealthy/privileged family and lives somewhere that resembles a mansion.

The worst purchase I've made recently is the Blu ray for the "The Daleks in Colour." I can't quite explain why I bought it. Even The Daleks DVD is just the old one from The Beginning boxset. There's a "making of" documentary which I will never watch either. I can't explain why you bought it either. Actually I was going to get it initially, because I thought the original 7-parter had been upgraded to Blu-Ray as well. But when I realised it was just the dvd again, I dropped the idea like a hot brick.

I was surprised at Mark Ayres tbh. I admit I've never been a Keff fan, but I always thought Ayres' music was alright. And he's always shown good judgement on previous projects. But here.... He seriously f*cked it up.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was just doing what he was told by Davies and company.
