To tell you the truth, I haven't watched it since it aired. I remember thinking it was too short at 75 minutes. The 20th anniversary was at least an hour and a half. I reckon they could have added an extra 20 minutes or so to flesh things out a bit and throw in some more references.

Even in 1988 we got an unofficial 25th anniversary story along with the main one.

Pisstaker's swansong is longer than the 50th. Let that sink in.
I'm still bewildered by how badly - IMO - Moffat dropped the ball with the 50th.

Not having the Eight Doctor in it was a huge blunder from him. John Hurt was a great actor, but it was hard to get behind what Rob accurately described as the faketor.

The Smith era prior to it was going down hill by then anyway so I’m in hindsight it’s not that strange. Besides it was all one massive circle jerk for nuwho. We had more genuine anniversary bits from Name of the Doctor for goodness sake.

Pisstaker's swansong is longer than the 50th. Let that sink in. I'm still bewildered by how badly - IMO - Moffat dropped the ball with the 50th. I think that it's longer to scoop up more viewers. They count viewers if you switch round to something for only a few mins. If Jodie's on for an hour and a half well that gives her a much better chance. They've never been more desperate after the catastrophic failure of the Jodie era. They'll use every trick they can to make sure that her last episode isn't a total disaster. As for the 50th well I liked it at the time and had it led to a better 12th doctors era then I think it would be more fondly remembered. Having 12 search for and rescue Gallifrey could have been a great way to round off his era. As it was the return of Gallifrey was the worst anticlimax in the shows history. CURATOR: Where is it indeed? Lost. Shush. Perhaps. Things do get lost, you know. And now you must excuse me. Oh, you have a lot to do.
DOCTOR: Do I?
CURATOR: Mmm. DOCTOR: Is that what I'm supposed to do now? Go looking for Gallifrey?
CURATOR: Oh, it's entirely up to you. Your choice, eh? I can only tell you what I would do if I were you. Oh, if I were you. Oh, perhaps I was you, of course. Or perhaps you are me. Congratulations. DOCTOR: Thank you very much. Meanwhile 2 years later Gallifrey is back and the explanation? CLARA: I thought you said Gallifrey was frozen in another dimension?
DOCTOR: Well, they must have unfrozen it and come back. CLARA: How? DOCTOR: I didn't ask. It would make them feel clever.

Not having the Eight Doctor in it was a huge blunder from him. John Hurt was a great actor, but it was hard to get behind what Rob accurately described as the faketor. I always just treated it as New Who's version of Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor. I know it's not the same thing, but it's still a different actor giving his own take on what's essentially the same type of character (Eccleston was the War Doctor more or less until he wasn't).
