I seem to recall comparisons previously being drawn here between the current mess and Lenny Henry's Doctor Who sketches. Frankly, and i'm being deadly serious here, Gatwa makes Henry look not only viable but actually desirable. And that was meant to be a spoof..! NuWho IS a spoof. They just don't know it. Are we absolutely certain they don't know it? Something's having the piss taken out of it...

Throughout Gatwa's first episode, all I saw was an actor shopping for character traits. Some moments were great, some just felt like him playing a version of himself, and some of it was just blindly throwing darts at the wall. Sounds like the jury's back in...

One of RTDs first ever contributions to Doctor Who was a gay sex scene in the novel that he wrote during the 90s.
This was always part of the plan.
He's the Klaus Schwab os sci-fi.

He doesn't get it. Dr Who doesn't need sex scenes. Gay or otherwise.

It's simple. RTD is Rimmer, Moffat is Holly and Chibnall is Kryten.

Kryten is polite and milquetoast, but subservient to Rimmer. He also ends up picking up traits from the rest of the crew.
Holly just doesn't give a f*ck and takes the piss every chance he gets, despite seeming to be the most capable on the surface . As a sidenote, I'm pretty sure that there was one episode where he claimed to have orchestrated a lot of the show's events just to keep Lister busy, which feels like the type of retcon Moff would do lol.

Was that in Damaged Goods? I also heard that there is a scene where Ace gives a guy a blow job in the back of a car? Or am I getting that mixed up with the creepy relationship between Ace and Glitz and another filthy thing RTD did? Honestly thank f*ck DW was cancelled in the 80s. We always think oh how amazing it would have been if in the 90s John Carpenter and Leonard Nimoy made it and Tim Curry or Rik Mayall played the Doctor, but in actual fact what most likely would have happened is that JNT would have limped on to the end of the McCoy era and then Cartmell probably would have left after McCoy, Sophie and JNT like Terrance Dicks did. Then the Fitzroy Clique who were already scooshing their way up the BBC ranks would have been given the show, miscast the 8th Doctor and brought all of their virgin new adventures crap into the actual show. Imagine that? Things like Damaged Goods in the series rather than just a crappy spin off novel nobody read LOL. It's good the original ended and has a clean break from all of their crap.

Haha perfect I'm impressed. Only difference is though Kryten is very competent.

Haha perfect I'm impressed. Only difference is though Kryten is very competent. One thing I miss from late 90s Red Dwarf (when Kochanski was around) is how cynical Kryten got. Llewelyn did a great job filling Barrie's shoes in that regard, with Annett taking over Llewelyn's straight man role. It's a shame they kind of went backwards during the Dave era.
