However I still think this will be tacky, and I do worry given RTD's new woke approach if it will just be a hatchet job on John Lennon like that Frankenstein one was for Byron.

I think John would have appreciated being in it the most as he was the biggest sci fi fan of the group. Not only did he have a huge collection of sci fi comics and books, but he also believed in UFOS and claims to have seen one. He saw it in New York when he was naked with his mistress May Pang (also naked.) Two possibilities exist. Either the aliens were Beatles fans and wanted to get John's autograph but were too shy, or they saw both of them and thought we were a planet of nudists and f*cked off. (I will say seeing aliens when you're naked with your girlfriend is pretty cool. He'd be a legend for that never mind the Beatles and Working Class Hero LOL.) John was obsessed with UFOs meanwhile. I wonder if it wasn't known that Lucy in the Sky was written about and named after a drawing Julian Lennon did, then UFO conspiracy theorists would insist that was inspired by an alien that visited him LOL. John's collection of sci fi books actually went on sale recently, much like Amy Winehouse's collection of comics. (In both cases I don't mean ones they wrote, I mean simply ones they owned.) I must admit I never saw the appeal in buying either. If there are any good stories in the collection you could get them anyway for I'd wager considerably less. (For instance one of Amy's comics was Thirty Days of Night, whilst John had a Dan Dare collection, both of which I bought on their own for considerably less), and I think the idea of simply owning something they did, when both are dead is kind of..... creepy? |

You never know, Lennon might have his N-word pass in this version If they want it to be "diverse" they should have Billy Preston in it as well, maybe even Quincy Jones who apparently visited them and remarked that they were the worst musicians he'd ever encountered lol |

Fits in with the originally intended Beatles 50th Anniversary Concert idea for the Chase although the two remaining Fabs won't require any (Arrive Without) Aging make-up. |

He has turned Doctor Who into a bunch of musical numbers and a fantasy show with no plot. THIS IS NOT DOCTOR WHO. THIS ISN'T EVEN NEW WHO. HE IS MAKING A CAMPY, CRINGE, TACKY, GAUDY MUSICAL. This is not what Doctor Who is meant to be. RTD has been worse for the show than Micheal Grade.

Awww I liked Ian's crappy dancing haha with the space monsters book in his hand. I do admit that Beatles cameo was the closest Old Who came to RTD's pandering to the modern zeitgeist in terms of having celeb cameos and whatever was trendy at the time thrown in there without any real reason. Even then though I think that old who did it better. They at least picked The Beatles, who love them or hate them, where a big band that was clearly going to be remembered for decades to come. Again biased, but the Beatles clip in the Chase would be like if RTD had an Amy Winehouse song, or a Gaga song, or hell even a Beyonce song for all I dislike her, playing in one scene. Even on that shallow score though RTD still manages to f*ck it up by picking things nobody will remember in like 3 years, such as The Weakest Link, Trinny and Suzannah, the X-Factor. Also at least that was just a clip and not an entire episode based around it. |

Also as something of a quiz show peruser myself, the original Weakest Link was incredible, it had such a foreboding atmosphere which to be fair mostly came from Anne Robinson lol, but the eclipsing darkness of the set and that stabbing synth music definitely helped. On the one hand, it provides an glimpse and a reminder into Ian and Barbara's own lives before they left the 60s as well as their cultural differences with Vicki. Plus, as opposed to worshipping celebrity, Nation takes the piss out of it by presenting the idea of the Beatles having their own museums in the future being a load of fantastical bollocks given that many thought that they would be another ''here today, gone tomorrow'' pop act that would fade into obscurity and irrelevance after the 60s ended. Besides, I'd much rather the series championing Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starkey than Trinny and Suzannah and f*cking McFly. At least the former had talent. |
