This is why having the physical product is so important.

Honestly I think he needs psychiatric help. I feel sorry for him.

The fact that he calls his dad "Tony" makes it seem like he has a lot of unresolved daddy issues

I cannot fathom how this twat has the ability to block anything tbh. His daddy was a jobbing writer on 4 sodding eps ffs.

He refers to “The Tribe of Gum” and not “An Unearthly Child”. Does this mean that the first episode will still be included? I’ve warmed to the latter segment of that story over the years. Shame to see that it won’t be included in this new iPlayer archive. Typical- on account of Coburn *and* the BBC. Question is, will this also f*ck up the Blu-ray release of Season 1..? By the looks of it now, yes. Coburn's clearly a jumped up f*cking lunatic with an overcompensation complex, and the BBC were fools to even bother responding to him.

Honestly I think he needs psychiatric help. I feel sorry for him. Bloody hell, get the violin out. I really dislike this "I hate it so I must destroy it for everyone else" attitude.

Honestly I think he needs psychiatric help. I feel sorry for him. Bloody hell, get the violin out. I really dislike this "I hate it so I must destroy it for everyone else" attitude. He needs a team of psychiatrists working on him round the clock. He has real daddy issues. It's clearly not about money as he was offered a generous sum, but turned it down just out of spite! That is quite incredible. I will say though whilst I do feel sorry for the people who worked on it, and the young fans who would have wanted to see this classic piece of tv but now can't, a part of me can't help but laugh at how the copyright rules have come back to bite the BBC, the most unfit custodians of DW imaginable in the bum. I f*cking HATE copyright rules. They are a blight on the industry. Think of how much more could have been done with DW had it been public domain? Look at the ridiculous bullshit that Spider-Man is tangled up in over rights? When the big companies get beaten at their own game by a spiteful relative they overlooked it is always quite funny. (Like Stan Lee's daughter who supported Sony f*cking Disney in the arse over Spider-Man, because she HATED Disney with a vengeance.) Ultimately though I don't see this sticking. I think Stef has made a huge blunder as had he taken their deal he could have earned more money via the convention circuit and blue ray and DVD sales, but now they'll probably take him to the cleaners and he'll end up with nothing.

Coburn's clearly a jumped up f*cking lunatic with an overcompensation complex, and the BBC were fools to even bother responding to him. Indeed, it would seem so. I've been reading up on this and the reasons for this legal tangle seem to derive from the fact that whilst during the development of the pilot, Anthony Coburn was a staff writer he was, apparently, retained on a freelance basis whilst writing the remainder of the serial. Upon Coburn's death, the rights were passed on to his widow. Stef Coburn's mother passed away in 2013 (50th anniversary, funnily enough...) and the rights were, unfortunately passed on to him. Sure enough, at that time, he began making noises about his father being the supposed creator of Doctor Who, and attempted to sue the BBC for the rights to the Tardis (the fact that the f*cking Metropolitan police already tried this and failed seemed to pass him by...) This went absolutely nowhere, of course (presumably due to lack of evidence and realty...). However, here we go again and it would seem that this time he's been successful in his aims. Quite why Coburn has waited all this time to exact his "vengeance" is anyone's guess as, presumably, all the time copies of the Beginnings boxset (released 2006) continued to change hands, he could have retracted the rights at any point... However, one thing is certain; this is a major thorn in the side for a supposed "complete collection" of Doctor Who blu-rays. A range already troubled by missing episodes, price-hikes, a now debunked "limited edition" status and the announcement of "all you can eat" Doctor Who on iplayer. It's hard to believe at this point that the BBC has allowed this to happen but Coburn appears to have got what he wanted, at least for now. However, i doubt it'll make him happy; his issues clearly go way beyond Doctor Who. Burrunjor is right on this one, he's a job for a psychiatrist and he's not the type to look for help, as long as others are suffering more than he... *An amusing addendum; "The Beginning" is currently the #1 bestseller in television at Amazon. Maybe he is working for the BBC, after all....

Yeah he's eh, he's not well. As I said on twitter, ironically he is talking like a villain from a bad DW story. To be honest I think people should stop sending him tweets at this stage as he is clearly living for this attention and it's not doing his issues any good.

Yeah he's eh, he's not well. It sounds perilously like he's having delusions and seeing things which aren't there. Russian Federation? Why would they give a f*ck? Given the rather terrifying earnestness of his posts so far, I can wager he isn't trolling and actually believes this... I think my estimation of "overcompensation complex" was unnervingly on the money... *An amusing addendum; "The Beginning" is currently the #1 bestseller in television at Amazon. Maybe he is working for the BBC, after all.... Looks like the prat's seriously shot himself in the foot...

I think that someone close to him needs to stage an intervention and I don't mean that in an insulting way. Look here.

This might set a precedent, which is worrying because classic Who has faced rights issues in the past (Zygons and Rani come to mind), I guess because the writers of the episode technically own the property rather than the BBC?

The whole thing sucks. He looks totally irrational and has now f*cked it up for everyone. Hang on to your Beginning boxset very tightly.
