Honestly, her performance is fine. Better than any main cast member NuWho has had since Series 10. Finney herself isn't the problem, the context surrounding her casting is. The BBC's own review describes the episode as "little more than a delivery system" for a trans activist message, while other reviews seem to indicate that this character's primary purpose is to serve as a pretext for declaring the Doctor "non-binary". Combined with RTD's extremely vitriolic public comments on the matter and the new podcast co-hosted by Juno Dawson who was personally responsible for getting both Gareth Roberts and James Dreyfus fired, this is yet another case of NuWho nailing its colours to the mast regarding a divisive culture war issue. By all means, cast a trans companion, but just treat her like any other character in an escapist sci-fi adventure story. That's how you foster acceptance, not by making a massive f*cking deal out of it and declaring anyone who holds a different point of view unwelcome. Bingo, it's a shame though you have to keep saying it, as you'd think that was the most obvious f*cking thing on earth. Had they just gone for a trans companion and made her a normal character in a healthy, faithful era of DW that would have done so much more for acceptance than the hamfisted shit and wrecking the shows lore and history to pander to the shallowest form of neo liberal politics that has been their fortay since 2014. Then again as seen with the Red Dwarf boys, who have NEVER been praised for simply having a black character, the normal way doesn't lead to ego stroking and bumming about yourself like you're Martin Luther King in the media, which is seemingly all RTD and Chibnall want to get out of DW these days.

I didn't think Yasmin was 'wooden' at all. She certainly held her own against the oncoming storm of irritable that is pre-TARDIS travel Tate Meep's adorable, he's gonna break so many kids hearts by the end of this. Kids and Beep the Meep's biggest fan Rob

A broken clock is correct twice a day. Sometimes, that clock is Gallifrey base.

Honestly, the Meep and the Wrarth Warriors are the only good reason to watch this, the rest I couldn't give a crap about.

Says it all, not that the site can be trusted anyway. It's bought and paid for.

Says it all, not that the site can be trusted anyway. It's bought and paid for. This is the site that's critics gave Legend a classic 80s fantasy film starring Tim Curry in one of his greatest roles that set the standard for how the Devil should be portrayed on screen, with absolutely spectacular make up and effects and sets, a middling score and gave Doom Patrol season 2, which has a woman shag an illusion of her abusive step dad, a trans woman go on lectures about how her people have been persecuted long enough that have nothing to do with the plot, sex ghosts that want to make everyone in the mansion shag themselves to death, a character being shamed for being one of those guys who didn't know how to masterbate properly, because he put his dick against the sheets rather than use his hands, a perfect 100 score.

The audience score is far more reliable I find. Legend has a 42% critic score, but a far better 73% score from audiences showing that most people enjoy it regardless of what the Roger Eberts of the world think.

It drives me nuts how critics sneer at Legend? FFS it's an all time classic fantasy adventure.

Legend, The NeverEnding Story, Dark Crystal, Return to Oz, Labyrinth, Willow, Highlander... and a lot more.

Return to Oz absolutely scared the shit out of me as a child. I love those clown monsters with their long wheel legs and the head museum bit. I'm going to show this to my niece when she is 3 or 4 too haha. If she doesn't like it she'll just say "No, no, bye Return to Oz". LOL She always says bye to things she doesn't like.

So now that we or most of us have seen the bulk of the 50th anniversary specials, did they do the first 60 years justice, or were they a wank off for RTD's "golden age" of 2008, when the Doctor travelled with a shouting mockney, who took part in middle class zany comedy, like Oh Crikey from The Young Ones?

If you knew nothing about Doctor Who and happened to catch the two specials would you automatically think that they were celebrations of any kind? Even if people did like Wild Blue Yonder, it isn't 60th anniversary special material. I'm surprised RTD didn't save it for Ncuti's run. I don't know why everyone nowadays has to be so pretentious about anniversary specials that commit the crime of... celebrating the actual show.

Couldn't even be arsed to get other New Who Doctors in it, let alone celebrate the actual real Who. What a shitshow. But that's the point - remember how this all started. It was never about doing the 60th, it was just about RTD, Tennant and Tate getting to prat about together again. Screw everyone else. That's Davies in a nutshell.

I can't link the actual article because it's behind a paywall, but this is the headline of one from the Telegraph:
"New Doctor Who episodes will upset diehard fans, says Russell T Davies
Showrunner says the series is taking a sly step towards fantasy, which may annoy those who see it as a hard science-fiction show"
Didn't I mention this exact thing the other day? You might as well just email me and tell me that you don't want me to watch the show.
