The other month en route to Camden Market, I noticed a familiar, fierce-featured female coming in the opposite direction along Regent's Canal. She was accompanied by an IC1 Male and in posession of a sizeble conk. Like ships in the night we passed and in close proximity I was able to confirm that the lady was indeed Shobna herself (heard a bit of her voice too). Her hair was streaked with no shortage of grey and very nice she looked too. I did think of someone on here!

Happy to be the head of the Shobna fan club and the head of the Shobna nose fan club LOL. PS she absolutely rocks her grey hair. I mean seriously almost 60 and with grey hair she looks so much hotter than the majority of twenty somethings out there.

They're launching an official podcast for the show, Christal Dee is back I somehow doubt Claudia will be invited back on LOL. I don't mind Christal though to be clear. Never had any bad interactions with her. She's definitely not toxic like Mr Tardis or anything, but yeah she's too RTD era centric for me to take seriously as the official fan spokeswoman or whatever. Yeah she's obviously an SJW but she's been associated with the show for like over a decade now and I thought it was pretty unfair that she got kicked to the curb for five years during the Jodie era. Nice to see that she's back though.

I don't mind her. Apparently she's a big fan of the Pet Shop Boys too!

She's written for the Doctor Who books too, one of the anthologies about the companions.

I'm sorry but...it's obviously a man. And clearly a wooden one based on that performance.

I don't think I would have been able to tell if I didn't know.

I thought her nuanced performance was a refreshing change from Tate's usual "comedy" acting.

There's a lot to criticize about the trailer, but surely her being trans isn't a problem. Completely agreed. Doing that just gives Russell what he wants anyway as then he can say "look, look, look the gammons hate me for putting a trans woman in the trailer. I've won." Ultimately I'd have had no issue with a trans companion, as the companion can be anyone unlike the Doctor, though I don't doubt RTD will do it in the worst way possible, where she's not a fully rounded individual, just his ego on display "Look, look I have a trans person." Meanwhile it's hard to judge her performance from that, but she hardly seems worse than Yaz at least. Now if it were Yaz's mom that were the companion, sorry I need to not get sidetracked LOL.

I didn't think Yasmin was 'wooden' at all. She certainly held her own against the oncoming storm of irritable that is pre-TARDIS travel Tate
Meep's adorable, he's gonna break so many kids hearts by the end of this.

Honestly, her performance is fine. Better than any main cast member NuWho has had since Series 10. Finney herself isn't the problem, the context surrounding her casting is. The BBC's own review describes the episode as "little more than a delivery system" for a trans activist message, while other reviews seem to indicate that this character's primary purpose is to serve as a pretext for declaring the Doctor "non-binary". Combined with RTD's extremely vitriolic public comments on the matter and the new podcast co-hosted by Juno Dawson who was personally responsible for getting both Gareth Roberts and James Dreyfus fired, this is yet another case of NuWho nailing its colours to the mast regarding a divisive culture war issue.
By all means, cast a trans companion, but just treat her like any other character in an escapist sci-fi adventure story. That's how you foster acceptance, not by making a massive f*cking deal out of it and declaring anyone who holds a different point of view unwelcome.
