Honestly I think he's just happy that the show is doing (relatively) well compared to what he worked with in the 80s, especially considering he was indirectly blamed for the show's cancellation for a long time, and to an extent still is. And at the very least there's no more wobbly sets and cardboard robots.

maybe it's just me, but the only time I noticed the set wobble was in Nightmare of Eden

Some of those Colin productions are quite lavish, though. Mark and Revelation are both gorgeous-looking stories.

For Classic Who standards, yes, but even the best classic episodes look pretty naff compared to even the most unremarkable NuWho episodes.

People in 1983 could look forward to Troughton and Pertwee returning, the Cybermen, the Master, a Dalek (first appearance in four years), Gallifrey, Sarah-Jane, Susan, a flurry of other beloved companions and lastly a terrific script from a Doctor Who legend. In fairness, this could only happen because Terrance Dicks had the ability to deal with the insane grocery list of returning characters JNT thrust on him. Not even Robert Holmes could deal with that. As much as I dislike the story, "Three Doctors" is a much more reasonable anniversary story. JNT's grocery list was missing one vital character: The school kid that goes, "oooh yeah" from the first episode. Legend.

Russel's asked if The Doctor can regenerate into "identical twins", the journalists themselves are twins, but Russel's responses are...telling, especially if you know there's a certain rumour is going around.... "Keep watching, absolutely anything can happen" I like how he's essentially guilt tripping the kids into liking the episode. If they don't, he'll be mortified. I'm surprised he didn't get down on his knees and say, "please enjoy the episode! You kids are the only hope I have. Everyone else can see through my shit!"

wtf what did Glen McCoy do I mean as a writer. Let's be honest, Modern Who is just a glammed up version of Timelash.

For Classic Who standards, yes, but even the best classic episodes look pretty naff compared to even the most unremarkable NuWho episodes. Classic Who looked exactly the same as every other British show that came out at that time. If you're going to go after the classic series then you should also go after Series 1's vaseline filter look.
