Cornell's belief most likely stems from the fact that back in the day, nobody really gave two f*cks about continuity. We had UNIT retcons, Dalek history retcons etc.
But the problem is that writers now actively rely on this as an excuse to retcon and screw around with the past.
Back in the day, nobody cared about continuity because it just wasn't that relevant to the story currently being told. Even if it was a sequel like Attack of the Cybermen.

I just don't care enough to be this bitter lol I don't regard New as being the same show as the old anymore (from the beginning it was completely different in tone and RTD's Doctors bear zero resemblance to the real Doctor anyway). I just see it as a spinoff/fan fic and am happy to enjoy the bits I like (mostly from the Moffat era) and dismiss the rest. Not seen any Whittaker ep or have any kind of merch with her in it, nor will I, and my dial is currently set to "probably not" as to whether I will long-term return for the next era. I certainly don't let this inferior modern fan-fic in any way impact how I perceive the superior original though.

I do hope you didn't miss out on Seven's appearance in "Power of the Doctor", his farewell to Ace was genuinely good.

As was Davison's reuniting with Tegan. The only good part of that regeneration story was all the shameless fanwank.

I watched the classic clips on YT. They were alright for what they were. Still don't regard them as any more canonical than the books, comic strips or audios though lol!

"I don't regard New as being the same show as the old anymore" - Agreed, its clearly a reboot/reimagining in all but name. "RTD's Doctors bear zero resemblance to the real Doctor anyway " - Agree. "I just see it as a spinoff/fan fic" - Agree.

I just don't watch nuwho, at all. I though about it but found the prospect too depressing.
I'll just stick to the classic, chat about it with people I like and space it out so I don't suffer burn out. Maybe buy the odd BF audio whenever I can be arsed at most.
Frankly though, my hard core days have gone. I'm no longer interested in devouring all Doctor Who media on mass anymore.

There is some good stuff in the Moffat era, and his Doctors do at least somewhat resemble the classic character. I don't devour it all either, and haven't for years. No interest in the audios, books, comics... I watch the show every now and again, and will support the blu rays and that, but that's it.

I wonder if Yak feels the same way now? I went through something very similar, but it was doing a live stream with my friends about it has revived my love for Classic Who. Still will not watch any of New Who now, but the original, like I said I'm going to watch the longest arc in the shows history. The Web of Fear to the Deadly Assassin soon.

I've watched a lot of stories from Troughton to McCoy since the start of the year. Now I'm doing a proper rewatch of the Hartnell years. Absolutely loving it at the moment. I might give the show itself a break though in a week or so to make room for reading books and studying. I've done nothing this summer but watch television.
