Not shore if this is actually the case but it’s not uncommon for western tv programmes with more mass market appeal to limit their queerbaiting in order that it can be sold to other countries.
The Cartoon Adventure Time hinted at a lesbian romance between two of it characters, but the only scene of any intimacy is literally in the final episode. It’s done so they can keep selling the show to countries that are not so open on gay rights. That way they can rewrite dialog and more easily cut scenes for localisation.

I wouldn't care about selling it to less tolerant countries if I had a gay character. Xena did well on a global scale with two bisexual leads. Lady Gaga is hugely popular around the globe despite being openly bisexual and kissing women in her videos, as was my other fave Amy Winehouse. If you truly care about representation that is exactly the type of thing you should push. Make other countries look stupid for being scared of two women kissing in comparison to their neighbours. If that is why they have resorted to such shameless queer baiting then that's even worse IMO as it shows that their representation crap is just to look good. IE we'll turn Jon Pertwee into a lesbian because that'll annoy fans, who aren't homophobic, just don't want the Doctor changed beyond all recognition. However we can make out they are homophobic and bigoted to make ourselves look like the modern Gene Roddenberry. When faced with ACTUAL institutionalised homophobia however that we can make an ACTUAL brave stand against, at the cost of money. We'll fold faster than Superman on laundry day. PS since the episode last night got only 2 million viewers, the lowest in the shows history, maybe they should be more concerned about it being popular in the UK first.

Viewers down at 2.2 million. Lowest in the shows entire history. That really is utter rubbish. That makes the McCoy era look like an audience ratings smashing juganaut. Where's Michael Grade when you need him?

It’s a scummy practice so they can look good on Twitter and make money. It’s the same thing as removing all references to the fact that Black Panther is played by a black actor in the marketing in China, or letting edits be done on lesbian cartoon character to make them look like men when the shows sold to the Middle East. Not a drop of real diversity support in any of these c*nts.

"blah..blah..blah...it's overnight figures only...television landscape being different these days...more channels to choose from...more ways to access content...audience appreciation figures are the only ones which matter...blah..blah..blah..." It'll be the usual rubbish.

MrTardis is saying that this is kind of story detractors (i.e. WE) wanted.
Some smarmy little c*nts WhoStation and Midnight Chimes made the pre-requisite straw man comments about Jodie era detractors being reactionary istaphobs in response.

Where's Michael Grade when you need him? It’s almost a million viewers below what the opening episode of Battlefield achieved, which achieved the lowest ratings of the series on initial broadcast. That’s bloody awful. Even if we were to argue that the “TV Landscape” has changed, how do you explain how the series is continually losing viewers every year?

It's constantly evolving, even from one minute to the next. It's therefore completely impossible to make anything that anyone would like...

I think I am going to sign up to GB again and gloat to Loonyboyx, Culfy, Nullain, Count Alucard and all the other wankers who gave me such a bad time. I know it sounds petty, but looking back on it they really upset me with their horrible abuse, calling me a pathetic loser, a misogynist, a creep etc, and EVERYTHING I said turned out to be true. Literally everything about the female Doctor being a failure. I won't gloat to Claudia Boleyn though LOL, don't worry. She just highlights what wankers those people were, that you can still be friends despite the all important issue of DW. Yay! No more using Battlefield as a f*cking scapegoat every five minutes. Prats.

Battlefield was aired opposite a world cup qualifier for England on one side and Corrie on the other, and had no publicity. This story was in the best timeslot and given a Radio Times cover.

What a piece of shit. Yeah it's our fault, the people who warned him against this for the last 6 f*cking years who he scoffed at for not understanding how viewing figures worked. "IF YOU ALLOW ME TO CHECK MY NOTES!" PS the little toad doesn't understand that the viewers for this episode are based on previous episodes. It's flux and the timeless children that dragged it down to this.

It was also given endless exposure on Twitter and at the top of search engines, poor old Battlefield didn't get that!

That you either have sci-fi and adventure or a moral/message, thus completely ignoring how science fiction is fundamentally supposed to work.
Look up "Allegory", William, you'll find it under "A".
...And while you're at it do us all a f*cking favour and show it to your mate, Chibnall...
