My review of Backwards is out, and it's probably my most negative so far lol. This was not a good time. Hopefully Marooned will cheer me up. I can't bring myself to see it torn apart You'd best skip my Polymorph review too... I thought I liked it, but found it appalling on this viewing. None of it makes a lick of sense.

Stop being mean to Series 3! Lol I find it really hard to dislike anything from the show. There's maybe two episodes out the whole lot I would call bad TV, but most of the time I'd stick any episode on to pass the time. Series 3 is one of my favourites although it took me a while to get used to the production changes.

As luck would have it, the next one is Bodyswap, which I've always loathed. At least I know it ends on a positive note with The Last Day. But yeah, most of the season is much more dire than I remembered.

I don't get Rushy's insane opinions over Polymorph and Bodyswap LOL, but I do agree that series 3 is a bit more uneven.
It's the bridge between the sitcom feel of the first two series and golden era of monsters and adventures feel of series 4-7 and therefore is an odd transition at times.
Overall I like it, but it does contain two episodes I'm not as fond of. Marooned and Timeslides. The former completely wastes Kryten and the Cat. There are some hilarious moments like the talk over Rimmer being a coward. In fact that might be one of my favourite moments. It's another one of these scenes you have to put out of your mind when you're in public or you'll start giggling insanely.
"I didn't start the fight? I merely voiced a rumour that his sexual preferences where with those who were deceased."
"To his face, right to his face, when he was with his four biggest mates and then you do your road runner act and leave me to face the music!"
You can just imagine the smarmy way Rimmer said it to that guy and how badly Lister would have been beaten up, and how pissed he'd be with Rimmer afterwards, who would probably try and weasel out of it.
Still some great scenes aside, I find the whole episode drags too much and for me the show is at its best when all characters get a chance to shine.
Timeslides meanwhile similarly has got some great moments like the Ohm song, but overall I think Lister is too out of character being willing to erase the Cat and Kryten, plus the fact that Kryten doesn't figure that out is ludicrous as well. I would have enjoyed it more if they'd used the Timeslides to have more of a proper adventure, IE get trapped somewhere, or maybe someone else escapes from the photograph, or the effects of time travel are greater, but not in a way that writes half the cast out.

Timeslides is brilliant. Madness reigns supreme on this forum Timeslides makes Lister into too much of a badguy. Even more than Tikka to Ride to be honest which gets lots of flak for that, yet Timeslides is always overlooked that way?

I sometimes wonder how soon I'd crack if I was in his position.

I watched Back to Earth again last night. I honestly really like. It feels unusual compared to the rest of the Dave era. but it's quite a fun idea. The Director's Cut is the better of the two versions mainly because I think it deserves to be viewed as one continuous feature length adventure.

That scene in the books where he has a nervous breakdown and screams at God to kill him was wild to read. They really went all out in the books.

If you lot here do know me you'll know I'm the sort of rough and tough, hardened marine type you do NOT want to mess with?

My review of Polymorph is out... sorry, I'm roasting it again. Series III is baaaad. It's funny, because I don't remember ever disliking Polymorph before. But now the next episode is Bodyswap, which I've always heavily disliked. So it's not looking good. Timeslides I'm sort of okay with, although it's basically just another Stasis Leak to me. The Last Day should be terrific, though. And then we blissfully move on to series 4, where I can't think of one bad episode. That might be the most consistently good season of the show. The weakest is maybe DNA, but I still greatly enjoy Llewelyn in it. Does anyone else think The Last Day, Camille and DNA is one big Kryten trilogy?

I prefer 3 to 4. Camille starts off well, then gets kinda shite in the second half.

I'm going to pour myself a nice drink of Pepsi later on and binge Series 3. It clearly deserves some love

Loving The Promised Land on Blu ray. I will be so happy if the upcoming adventure is as funny as this. Doug rarely if ever lets me down.

Possibly the highlight of the Dave era. I love that Rimmer became the Cat people's god. It makes this line from series 1 even better. "I could have been god if I'd been given the lucky showbiz break you did."
