What a load of crap. Are we really expecting to believe that the British would be willing to launch a nuke at another nation just to show it's power? There is only one country who is (and was) evil and dumb enough to do that, and that is the Americans. I hate my British heritage, and will lambast it at the best of times. I will soon renounce my nationality. But RTD is taking this to a whole other level. Putting us on par with the US is the biggest insult he could do frankly.
We may be a foolish nation, but we at least always kick out our bastards eventually. Looking at you Boris.

I can live with it as a dreamlike manifestation of Ruby's anxieties and fears. If you watch this episode as Doctor Who does David Lynch, it comes together much more concisely.

You know I've hated that disabled bashing c*nt since 2005. I'm actually now enjoying the backlash against the c*nt. It's like the sand fell from everyone's eyes.
Truth be told, I gave up watching during the Chibnal Era. I only caught this by accident. Typical RTD, an interesting premise ruined by political commentary and a naff ending.

But ultimately my reaction was more boredom than anything else. It was a bit of a one trick pony that could've acheived its aims in half of the 45mins alloted time. And as others have said, I don't really give a shit about Ruby, certainly not even close enough for her to be leading an episode, but I will say that tonally it was an improvement until Gatwah reappeared. In that sense it was certainly an improvement on the first two eps, but ultimately failed to keep me interested.

I saw a post on FB praising it as being comparable to Midnight, which is fair in the sense that Midnight bored me to tears as well.

The next episode is that "Slug of Swansea" episode. Looks like it's going to be a right pile of shit.

Good point, I did feel the 73 steps thing didn't develop enough in the middle of the story. Just felt like being bashed over the head with repetition.

Again it's funny that nobody mentions that the McCoy era is a supernatural era. As I've said before.
Silver Nemesis = Witch (Lady Penforte)
The Greatest Show In The Galaxy (Gods and Werewolf.)
Battlefield (Demon and witch and Arthurian mythology.)
Ghostlight (Angel and haunted house.)
The Curse of Fenric (Vampires and demon.)
Survival (demonic possession, people turning into animals, mythological themes linking felines to femininity.)
One could argue that the supernatural themes begin earlier with Dragonfire revolving around Dragon myths and Remembrance featuring a sort of supernatural concept with the Hand of Omega. The imagery is certainly there with the Hand the way it basically comes back from the dead when it's buried.
However the McCoy era works because it is left open ended that these could all be funky aliens or the real deal, and it also has the Doctor act like the Doctor. A scientist who wants to learn about these strange new creatures like any other before him, and is open to new ideas but still approaches it like a scientist. He doesn't snap his fingers and go into dance numbers, run away because he's too scared or comment that this is supernatural.
It's funny because on paper Survival is everything RTD wants to do with Who, but it works. Survival is a supernatural story, it explores LGBT themes blatantly, and it's set in a council estate and dabbles in the companions home life.
However regardless of whether you like the story or not, most would agree that it seems like a DW story because the Doctor is written as the Doctor. He doesn't burst into song, call people babes, again he's very Sherlock Holmes working things out in secret, he's an eccentric genius who can be quite cynical and short, he has a paternal relationship with his companion, is played by an eccentric, offbeat, middle aged character actor etc. The focus is still on the fantasy with the lesbian romance being worked into that, not vice versa, and similarly the council estate setting is used to build up an atmosphere rather than be something we can divert to for 10 mins to fill the run time. Ace's neighborhood is the kind of horrible, dreary little place where someone could go missing and nobody cares. The police would just view it as a tear away, or a young slapper, the judgemental neighbors would probably think the same. It's a product of that horrible Thatcher mentality of every man for himself where there is not only no community, but so many people are just discarded and tossed aside like Midge. Perfect place for a monster to start picking off and corrupting young angry people in secret.
It's not even the format RTD is using, it's honestly just the way he does it.

A lot of wealthy media people bang on so relentlessly about identity politics as a cover for the fact they are right-wing on almost everything else.
If there was a 1 pence tax on waving a rainbow flag, they'd be joining the nazi party tomorrow.

I haven’t sat through this. Although I pirated the last three, my interest is now such that I haven’t even countenanced watching this.

UGH viewers up at 2.62 million. How annoying seeing them all act smug about this on twitter and reddit.

Such numbers would have generated sheer panic among the fandom merely three years ago. It's the Doctor Who equivalent of William Hague gaining one new Conservative MP in the 2001 General Election.

I'm afraid I couldn't even lasted 73 seconds, never mind 73 f*cking yards with this one, so I can't tell you how crap it is.
Not sure I can subject myself to watching any more of this rubbish.
I still haven't watched the muppet one yet.
Each time I attempt to pull it up on iplayer to watch it, I just lose the will to live.
