Just caught an excerpt of The Devil’s Chord. Gatwa utters this line after music is used as a weapon:
“I thought that was non-diegetic”.
Could Davies be any more obnoxiously postmodern?

The chord used to defeat the Maestro was really lame and didn't even incorporate the tritone that was foreshadowed in the episode's opening. I guess John and Paul plonking out a ditty on an old honky-tonk was enough to defeat the God of Music herself? Nice to see that Millie Gibson really was playing the piano, same can't be said for Ncuti Gatwa and Jinkx Monsoon, whose violin-playing looked atrocious. One of my ultimate pet peeves is the music not syncing up to what the actors are playing on their instruments. There was a bit of that but nothing too egregious. Jinkx's piano playing in the opening scene seemed legit, as well as the old guy's.

What was the best of Capaldi's first series? I remember thinking Listen was fine. I actually saw that before it was broadcast because someone had leaked a workprint version of it online. Into the Dalek and the one with the people coming in from the other universe. Flatline was it? Both really excellent, solid, creepy, dark adventures that show the direction the Capaldi era an Doctor should have gone in. Into the Dalek has some flaws admittedly, like the slow opening with Danny and the am I a good man crap, but overall both strong episodes. Again I had 0 issue with Robot of Sherwood being a nice little breather from that. Meanwhile Listen well the bit in the future has the potential to be a fascinating and scary story of the last man in the universe trapped somewhere and there is something outside that defies the natural laws trying to get in. That could have been a tight, claustrophobic, nightmarish story, but sadly that's only about 10 mins, the rest is Danny and Clara on a date and some pretentious shit where we see the Doctor as a young boy.

What was the best of Capaldi's first series? Probably Into the Dalek, (but yes, the Danny Pink stuff was pure tedium) and Mummy on the Orient Express which wasn't too dire as far I can recall. Although both on are only 5/10 on a good day. To be honest, there's very few Capaldi eps I can tolerate, largely because of Missy, The Doctor's speechifying, and just Moffat's stupidity in general. And don't even mention the Davros episodes. I can just about tolerate Empress of Mars, and parts of World Enough and Time, but otherwise you can keep the whole era. If fact, you can keep it all, when it comes to the crunch. lol

Despite the juvenile script, one of the things which bugged me was the way The Doctor and Rose are always whooping their way up to orgasm-stupour levels, it's just plain f*cking embarrassing. Ah, i see you've got your hands on the Series 1 Blu ray, Rob. I have to warn you, it gets worse from here...

LOL it's a testament to how interchangeable these modern companions are that Rob didn't even notice that and neither did I when reading it. All about change remember.

I watched Space Babies, and thought it typical peurile RTD-fare, a load of stupid space babies with a bogey-monster on a spaceship powered by farts. “We had long conversations about inserting the bogey monster in there because it’s a fantastic creature. Time and society and culture and taste has moved on, and there’s a problem with the bogeyman of old in that he’s a creature made of nasal mucus who is evil. And I had problems with that, and a lot of us on the production team had problems with that- with associating inevitable human bodily substances with evil, and trust me, there’s a very long tradition of this.”

I don't mind Ruby. My biggest issue with her is that she pronounces "something" annoyingly. Talk propa English girl!

Some of Gatwa’s dialogue when talking to the “space babies”:
“My parents left me…I was found! Little baby me was left alone and the Time Lords took me in!”
Need I say more?

Just watched the second half of Space Babies. Yeah, it definitely gets much worse.... Robots of Sherwood doesn't seem quite so bad now.... When I say it's shite, it now has a double meaning. Which in the case of Davies, means he's doubling down. Such class....

On the plus side, based on audience aggregate websites, the general consensus also seems to be that it’s crap.

What IS this dual obsession with sex and excrement?
Maybe Russell T. Davies should go and f*ck himself in a sewer...?

8 minutes into The Devil's Chord..... This is even worse.... ridiculously OTT. Davies was obviously inspired by Dark Water. The only thing that's better is The Beatles songs.

6.4 on IMDB for Space Babies. It will drop over the coming days. Even The Devil's Chord failed to break into the 8s.
