but no worse than shit like Robots of Sherwood, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, or Partners In Crime. It’s not any better either though, is it? No of course not. Like I said; more of the same. No doubt there will be some moralising to come, and apparently muzak/dance routines. Which will make it even worse.

Whilst I haven't seen it, I doubt it's better than or even on the level of Robot's of Sherwood that was just a fun bit of silly tea time entertainment. This has got snot monsters and farts being used to save the day. It's like a bad parody of something. Even Futurama, Lost in Space and Red Dwarf despite being outright comedy sci fi series would probably not do an episode like this because its premise was too stupid.

I think Robot of Sherwood was more annoying because it was made at a time when some of us still had a little bit of hope that Who might turn a corner with Capaldi.

Yep. Deep Breath was a really promising start. Into the Dalek was a flawed but interesting take on a done-to-death villain. Robot of Sherwood felt like a kick in the head. It was the penny drop moment where I realised this was gonna be just as bad, if not worse, than the Matt Smith dross we were getting in series 6 and 7.

Besides, I haven't seen ALL of Space Babies yet. But my overriding feeling at least at this stage is, more of the same. ie: more shite.

No matter what the era, Doctor Who can always do a good Victorian episode.

If I knew how fluffy and irrelevant the episode was going to be I would have just skipped to The Devil's Chord and got 45 minutes extra sleep after.

Deep Breath
Ugh... Paternoster Gang. But at least it was the last time.

Personally I think Deep Breath was much worse than Robots of Sherwood.
Clara's reaction to the Doctor changing was out of character, unsympathetic, and condescending to the viewers.
Having Matt return showed a total lack of faith in their leading man.
The villain was just a literal retread of what happened before with nothing new.
The Dinosaur was pointless, oversized and made no sense.
So much of the script was Moffat congratulating himself about how clever his traps and twists were.
Shockingly bad dialogue from pretentious overwrought shit about how the Doctor has seen planets turn to dust, to inappropriate crap about Clara having fantasies about orgies in her head, to cringey conversations about flirting, to Vastra oggling Jenny and wanting to oggle Clara, to the Doctor making remarks about big sexy women and that's how I pick up girls, Missy calling him her boyfriend. Moffat seems to have been peak horny and pretentious when he wrote it LOL.
Also what was the point of those flashbacks? Or not letting us know whether he pushed the robot man to his death? Was that going to lead up to something where he was ruthless in dealing with a villain? Nope he was a pussy around Missy.
Robots in Sherwood meanwhile was fun, breezy, had a charismatic, likable actor as Robin Hood and Ben Miller was gloriously hammy and entertaining. The sci fi was very basic yes, but again I don't mind the odd light, filler episode.

I meant more in terms of Capaldi's Doctor than the actual plot, which was admittedly piecemeal and nonsensical. The severity of his character is completely undercut in Robots and never really recovers.

to Vastra oggling Jenny and wanting to oggle Clara Yeah that's really, err, terrible.

What was the best of Capaldi's first series? I remember thinking Listen was fine. I actually saw that before it was broadcast because someone had leaked a workprint version of it online.
