I was a bit confused. Is Jinx a drag queen who is a man or a trans woman? What I find so funny is that these people are so intent on doing away with gender norms, but drag is an art which intrinsically relies on gender norms

Having Tennant just sit there and let a teenager question him for daring to assume an alien's pronoun is a real low point. The interaction makes sod all sense anyway. You find yourself surrounded by alien beings hitherto completely unknown to you, all whilst other alien beings encroach on your house with blatantly hostile intent. You will be curious and shit-scared in equal measure. The last thing which would occur to anyone would be to start mulling on the triviality of pronouns. Davies is often commended for at least being able to write “realistic” character interactions for “ordinary” people (make of that what you will), and yet he comprehensively cocks that up here, purely for the sake of moral clout and attention.

There's no punch line to it or anything. The whole scene literally just stops to "set things right" so to speak. The Doctor just goes along with it and says sorry (something he didn't need to do).

All this only to have a thirteen year old kid fire a gun on his scooter.

All this only to have a thirteen year old kid fire a gun on his scooter. What an immoral and irresponsible bastard Davies is. Normalising teenagers shooting people! He’s failed his own purity test. I suppose he should step down and pave the way for a more sensitive showrunner.

I took my mint condition Eccleston-era sonic down to the local corner shop. No dice...

Odd, isn't it.
We can't have the Sonic resemble anything close to it's original design, because "modern audiences", blah blah....
(Now I come to think about it, almost like the Doctor himself, but I digress.)
...but we CAN have wheel-chair users and kids on Segways armed to the teeth with, erm... guns...?
Lovely logic there, RTD. Right up there with yer Davros chat: "I had problems with that. A lot of us on the production team did too, associating disability with evil." Super.
As an aside, Rusty old boy, do you remember when that end-of-series-four episode got over 10-million viewers? Or that one with Kylie got over 13-million? You wrote those didn't you? And who were the villains in both those episodes?? Two "disabled" people. Hmm...
But, as you rightly say "the world changes and when the world changes, Doctor Who has to change as well."
And one of those changes, Mr T Davies, is that those lovely viewers you used to very much enjoy no longer give a **** about the b******s you trot out
Loads more cash, but only 2 mill eyes on screen when it counts. Well done, sir. Well done. But at least the Sonic doesn't "look like a gun" anymore*
FFS.
*spoilers - it never did.

I know Eccleston has (quite brilliantly IMO) made his views on RTD and his cult of...(now, I love a bit of alliteration but can't for the life of me think of another 4 letter word starting with c and with a u and a t in it that would tick the box... must be getting old...) pretty clear. I can't help think there is still more to his unhappiness about his tenure... specifically behaviour by some cast towards crew... Will be "watching that space" with interest...

Why didn't you just say so..? Seems highly likely, doesn't it? The one thing i wish Eccleston had done, however, was to publicly criticise Davies' writing and the concerted effort to dumb down the programme. The artistic principles are just as important IMO.

People tend to forget that Eccleston joined Doctor Who specifically because RTD was writing it, and he continued to praise RTD's writing ability as genius despite their differences.
