Bendy Cock is an absolute blight on Doctor Who. He has no respect for the classic series, only got to where he was because he is Russell's pal, is a bully who screams at fans online, throws around sexist and transphobic accusations, whilst being such a scumbag he manipulated Claudia Boleyn when she was feeling at her worst to destroy years worth of work, and both stigmatized and fired her for her mental health problems, and now he is actively destroying the classics and making it harder for people to see the original untainted versions. I f*cking HATE him.
God Clive Swift was the hero we didn't think we needed, but did. May he forever be remembered as a legend for putting that little hipster shitstain in his place.

Just watched the brand new Daleks colour version.
Immediate reaction? Disappointed!
WTF was all that wildly incongruous new music score all about? The original soundtrack is still so chillingly effective so why take it out anyway? I wouldn't have minded a faithful version of same even if in a newly remastered form but not something sounding like a below par Hollywood blockbuster score and especially when it was obviously so inappropriate.
Now ok, I didn't mind the colour too much actually - well, bar those blue city floors. But. and here's the real issue, there was simply way too much that was cut out in the edit, rendering far too many scenes pointlessly invalid or incomprehensible.
Just imagine the alarming idea that if. after say some future nightmare apocalypse, the only record of Who that existed was this. What an insult to the original series this would represent.
Frankly, I thought the Peter Cushing movie Dr.Who and the Daleks did it much better.

Jesus that actually had proper pacing, gorgeous colours that suited the sets and music that went with it and didn't treat its viewers as such idiots, they had to remind them of what happened two mins ago. Benjamin Cook is a f*cking arsehole.

I'm not a big fan of the Cushing movie (mainly because of Ian and the Doctor's characterisation), but it was definitely a competently compressed version of the story.
If they wanted to do a New Who take on the classics, then they should've just remade them with David Bradley. I feel like everyone was talking about that idea for a while.

it's ironic that Peter Cushing is one of my top 5 actors (if not number one!), yet the one performance of his that I can't abide is his take on Dr Who. He plays it as if he was in pantomime. No subtlety whatsoever.
Literally every other performance of his - Frankenstein, Tarkin, Holmes, Van Helsing, whatever - would be my ideal Doctor. Calculating, clever, full of verbal wit.
But no, he just had to ham it up. It's one of my big pet peeves lol.

Agreed. I've come to really like Cushing but he clearly just regarded Who as a kiddy panto and played it accordingly. Hartnell crushes him.

I adored him as a kid because he was so cuddly in the first, and in the second he does the professorial part reasonably well. As you say however there is so much more he could have done. May not have been his fault as he did later say that he and the writers and directors wanted to make them proper horror films, but the studio insisted they be family/kiddie fare so that's what they went with. I think his worst performance meanwhile is At The Earth's Core. Sorry that was dreadful.

His dynamic with Susan is his main saving grace. I love that he insisted she be included in Daleks: Invasion Earth.

I would have loved to have seen that. The 60s aesthetic with a bigger budget, a more epic Dalek/Thal showdown, and some ideas from the novelisation, like a squid monster attacking them in the caves (could liven up the cave bit) the glass Dalek leader, maybe even the gold Dalek emperor. Remakes never bug me, as if they are bad, fine forget them, if they are good, great they can explore avenues of a complex story the original didn't. However sequels that try and constantly rewrite the past are shit, and surpassed only by outright bastardisations of the original that are designed to replace them.

What went wrong? It's basically his Doctor character but with NONE of the saving graces. As you say he does have a genuinely good rapport with Susan, plus he does have some cool ruthless moments when he deals with the Daleks, and some of the usual Cushing determination. In At The Earth's Core he just bumbles and goes "oh dear" throughout it. He does get a few moments when he shoots some Dinosaurs, but overall, he is really annoying in it. PS Peter Cushing might be my favourite actor of all time. I think he was exceptional in pretty much every role but these two. Sadly he just misread both characters, but At The Earth's Core is worse. Dare I say it's the only time he approaches bad.

Yes I'll second that.
Cushing is certainly one of my absolute faves too. While I love both the Dalek movies, I agree that his version of the Doctor leaves much to be desired.
Indeed his Van Helsing and Frankenstein portrayals are still I think unparalleled. If he'd played the Doctor in that kind of vein, he might very well have been the best Doc of them all. Funny that his Sherlock is still well respected whereas Tom Baker's interpretation of same was as much criticised as his deservedly celebrated Doctor was praised.
