It's not really in it. It serves its function as the cliffhanger of Part Two and then disappears until the Doctor finds it dead towards the end of the story. It amounts to 2 minutes of screen-time in a 98 minute story, with the remaining 96 minutes being nigh flawless to me. It doesn’t personally bother me in the slightest- it’s little more than a mere irritation (if that) which quickly disappears.

Poor old Magma beast. So underrated and misunderstood. If only the wonderful Steven Moffat could've written that story instead of that godawful hack Holmes. Then the depth and complexity of the Magma beast's character could be fully explored with the revelation that it was just looking for something to shag...

It was supposed to have been an animatronic and might have looked quite good had they got the stupid thing to work properly.
At the end of the day, it's hardly any worse than the giant rat in Talons.
