Her passion for the Doctor is innocent and unpretentious, undiluted by the sneering sense of irony and cynicism it takes to be accepted by the fandom in-crowd. Maybe if we're talking about Day of the Doctor Osgood, but not the Zygon Inversion one

Jemma Redgrave has an acting style? I thought she just stood there and let moss grow on her. "Betsy's been dead for 10 years." Apparently it's not Mel that has replaced Osgood. Mel IS part of UNIT, but the woman who has replaced Osgood is this girl. Let's all make her life a living hell, bully her everywhere she goes and destroy her self esteem until they bring back Osgood. LOL obviously kidding (though that is what saddos used to do to acts that got ahead of their favourites on the X-Factor like poor Katie Waissel.) Obviously I wish the actress luck. To be honest I feel sorry for her being on the set with NPH. I hope he didn't cook her or anyone else there lunch. I will say the Nerdrotic crowd are probably going to jump on this as a diversity hire, and to be honest I'll 100 percent admit, those were my thoughts too. It's awful that I have those, but honestly it's RTD and the BBC's fault because they keep going on about wanting a more diverse cast. If they'd just got on with it like the makers of Red Dwarf, no one would have noticed. Still obviously the actress is young and starting out, so good luck to her. I still think RTD was a dick to single out Osgood for the chop. I mean hey why not all three? We had Benton and Mike Yates (who to be honest I never really liked anyway but they still found a use for him) but to be fair he's been a dick many times before.

who's all three? I thought they only had Kate and Osgood (and that one lady who lasted like three episodes in series 9).
Anyway, they obviously kept Kate cause she's the most recognisable and is the Brig's daughter. People would ask too many questions if she left. It's a pragmatic decision.
Mel is there probably as part of some attempt to rehabilitate her character, and the nostalgia. Russell wants to show he can make a dud 80s companion actually good by letting her shine using her computer background (which was never used in the 80s).

I admit, she looks gorgeous in ' The Trials Of Oz', but even back then, Ms. Redgrave's performance still had that slightly lifeless, dull quality. Kate Stewart's character just seems to be posh and bland and little else, while her voice has a supercilious tone that I really don't like .

Russell wants to show he can make a dud 80s companion actually good by letting her shine using her computer background (which was never used in the 80s). Sorry I didn't phrase that clearly. I meant that they could have kept all three, Kate, Osgood, and the new red haired babe as the new UNIT family, given Barry Letts managed to find space for the Brig, Benton, and Yates. It would have been a dick move if in season 8, Yates replaced Benton for instance, who lets be honest as much as I like him, on paper he had less of a character at that point than Osgood. Overall I do love Benton don't get me wrong, he's in some of the best stories and has a great role in them, but that is more through John Levene's performance, and it is also something that builds up over time that he is the reasonable nice guy of the trio IE the Brig is the by the book guy, and Yates is the wild card. In the beginning however when Benton is just another UNIT soldier like say Paul Darrow;s captain, he could have easily slipped out for Yates who also started out as just a soldier guy, but they didn't do that and I might add Benton also wasn't created by the current team either, he is Derrek Sherwin's creation, but they weren't such ego maniacs everything had to be them. To me Osgood is clearly a character that RTD HATES and so he has deliberately gone out of his way to write her out, like he did the Time Lords, hence why as a fan of Ingrid I'm pissed as that will be upsetting to her. It's an insult no matter what way you spin it. "Okay you're all in, except for you. You piss off." She's not even being given a goodbye. If it was like Mike Yates, then that would be different, as he at least had a full story to write him out, but this? Typical elitism and exclusive our little club behavior from RTD. Again don't give me that he just can't do anything with her, as if he thinks he can do something with a 80s character who was nothing more than an attempt to wind up feminists, then Osgood should be no problem. Meanwhile I don't know why people are giving Mel's return so much of a pass, when A/ DW is all about change, yet they'd rather see a character from 1987 back than one who was created for the revival? 2/ They always make out they hate basking in nostalgia like bringing Keaton back for the Flash? Also here's the thing, what nostalgia even is there for Mel. Again no offence Maxil, but she was hardly the most popular companion. Both of her seasons rank dead last in fan polls. To me she is only back because RTD wants her there because HE is what JNT was always accused of. A light entertainer producer who is in sci fi. I think that's why Uncle Deadly's quote about heat magazine caught on evidently. To me he wants Bonnie because from the looks of things this season is going to be insanely panto, with its musical episode, and a literal drag queen, panto dame as the main villain.

I still think the internet enthusiast from RTD's debut, 'Rose', is filled with untapped potential.
Especially in the digital era.
So many story ideas about a guy who obsesses over other wordly visitors during the age of paranoia.

A shame he didn't form part of the Season 1 arc with Eccleston.

A shame he didn't form part of the Season 1 arc with Eccleston. I'll be honest I didn't think much of him. He certainly wasn't bad, or offensive, but was a fairly run of the mill fan avatar, though I'd wager you and a lot here probably feel the same about Osgood LOL. I do like that actor though he's great. There's an episode of Randall and Hopkirk, the remake he's in that's honestly a classic. What happens to his character gave me nightmares! You'd like that series I think. It's kind of a proto RTD era, in that it's a similar old 60s classic, given a early 00s makeover, with a bit more soap opera thrown in and a bit darker in some ways, a bit lighter and more silly in others. His episode I think is 5 and along with the one with Gareth Thomas is the best of the series. Here's the info about Clive from spin off material.

Nctui's new theme music was played at the 60th anniversary musical celebration recorded last night for broadcast October 16th
Some fans memorized it and are uploading their own covers of it to twitter.
It sounds a lot like a reprise of "I Am The Doctor" stuck perpetually in second gear.

I don't care what anyone says that song is brilliant.

It's an insult no matter what way you spin it. "Okay you're all in, except for you. You piss off." She's not even being given a goodbye. Ingrid was never a regular. She literally only had two appearances, and hasn't been a part of the show for almost a decade. And besides, the actor's feelings are irrelevant in this situation. As a showrunner, RTD is entitled to focus on what he feels is interesting about the show. David Maloney said it best, that a show must never be afraid to get rid of what isn't needed. It's like how Dicks never used Cybermen, and how Letts got rid of Liz Shaw. Yeah, they're popular, but if the writer in charge doesn't give a shit about them, then it's tough luck. For example, if I was somehow put in charge of season 22, then I'm sorry to say it, but Nicola Bryant is getting fired. She's lovely, got along well with Colin and her character is fairly popular, but I don't think the Sixth Doctor/Peri dynamic was all that interesting. I'd feel like I could do something better. So I'd kill her off and use that development to humble Six, and then give him a companion with more backbone (someone like Glynis Barber in the last season of Blake's 7). That's not me being mean-spirited, but simply pragmatic, using my perspective of what works and what doesn't.
