Tbh people are afraid to say it but the shoddiness of a lot of Classic Who really undermines its scripts and other elements. I used to think Classic Who music sucked, but then I realised that it'd actually work pretty well over something that was shot and edited well, it was just being undermined and made to look clumsy by the shooting, sound design, etc. I'll respond to Rushy tomorrow because that looks like a really interesting discussion and I want to talk it over properly, but I'm going to go to bed soon LOL. I'll do it tomorrow. Meanwhile you are right that the shoddiness of classic who can undermine it, to be fair though this is one of the most common criticisms I've seen of the original. Meanwhile I think that a lot of the time the production values weren't quite as bad as people say. After all the show did come up with designs that were so iconic they've remained for 60 years. Also I do admire DW and for the record Buffy and Angel for always trying to make their demons/aliens look alien/demonic LOL. Look at the aliens in Star Trek and they are so unimaginative and boring visually. Just guys with wobbly heads, same with most sci fi series like Andromeda, Blake's 7 etc. Same applies for demons in shows like Supernatural and Charmed. Of course sometimes in all cases it didn't work, and we got spectacular misfires like the Mayor snake, the cavemen, the Myrka etc. However overall I think visually Buffy and DW are probably about equal most of the time. I mean look at Linx the Time Warrior. Is he really any worse than say the Gentlemen? Meanwhile the music is a bit of a mixed bag. I LOVE the spooky 60s music in stories like the Daleks. That is still frightening after all these years. The Pertwee era apart from some stories like Inferno has some really crappy music LOL, though I do find it charming in a way, yeah coupled with his pain acting the goofy music can sometimes undermine serious moments. The 80s music is mostly okay meanwhile, though I like Remembrance's soundtrack in particular. You get the odd story with an exceptionally good soundtrack like Remembrance or Terror of the Zygons every once and while.

Production values are totally irrelevant to me so long as the script and acting are up to par. It's like theatre. It doesn't need to be realistic.

I agree with Maxil. Truth is that classic Who looked exactly the same as 99% of the rest of television from its time, and in fact better than most.

Keff McCulloch has always been my favourite composer for the series. 0:54 sounds like some 12'' club remix or something which is probably why I love it so much.

God that was bollocks. It turned Davros into a comedy character, and had the Doctor actually say he was messing up canon.

According to the guy that saw "Star Beast" yesterday, the episode does end on the cliff-hanger where Donna spills coffee on the TARDIS console, so that part of the 60th anniversary leak is accurate
However, the leak also said there was a "previously 15 years ago" recap with a Rose Tyler cameo and that has been apparently been changed, possibly last minute, to The Doctor talking to the audience while imposed via green screen on a starfield, while Donna tells her mother she's lost something

I so hope that is true.

I must admit I am excited. For once I just want to be entertained as a Doctor Who fan. Three specials, Mel (sorry, but I love her to bits), the Toymaker (even if he is played by NPH), my childhood Doctor and what looks to be a far bigger budget than we've had before. They've obviously delved deep into the history of the series, even going as far as to include Beep the Meep from a comic book. I'm sure there will be lots of nods to the classic series and perhaps a few surprises that they're not showing us. I just can't be bothered to be angry anymore. This aged well. My excitement level now is 0.

My excitement level now is 0. Bit like getting back with an ex. It's all very exciting at first. And then you remember why you dumped them in the first place... Honestly, Maxil; such unreasoning optimism in the face of the great, bloated warty one. Haven't all these years of agony taught you anything..?
