Elementary my dear Lucy Liu. Elementary. Some people online have thought I'm gay at times, only because of my interests. I do after all love and never shut up about female singers, many of whom are gay icons like Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and Paloma Faith, so yeah it's to be expected. Also a lot of my fave characters are gay icons like Buffy, Batman, and the Doctor. I'm amazed actually that you're the first gay fan we've had on this forum. DW fandom is so, so, so, so gay that even in a tiny community like this I'd expect there to be lots of LGBT people. Then again according to GB we're all white supremacist, evil Nazi homophobes so maybe that's why LOL.

I think a lot of that traditional 'gay' culture has been eroded away and/or relegated to the past, mostly by the alphabet mafia sorts. I wouldn't be surprised if lesbians and gays were eventually ostracised by the alphabet mafia for being 'cisheteronormative' or whatever. It's a load of bullshit, whatever it is.

I wouldn't be surprised if lesbians and gays were eventually ostracised by the alphabet mafia for being 'cisheteronormative' or whatever. It's a load of bullshit, whatever it is. He is the same way the Doctor was. Obviously neither of them were intended to be gay, but, the fact that Batman for the most part is celebate, is extremely campy, and spends all his time with a young man in tights (who he once shared a bed with) kind of cemented him as a gay icon. Even the Adam West version had some fun with this, with Batman mentioning that he and Robin rubbed themselves down in oil to escape a villain (obviously they meant they did it to themselves, but the way it's said LOL , it's one of the gayest things I've ever seen.) Look at this picture of Batman and Robin from a 50s comics. Simpler times and everything, but oh dear god! "No crumpets for breakfast though Bruce." "Oh of course not, I hate crumpets." Also a further reason why Batman is big for gay people, is Kevin Conroy, who voiced him more times than anyone, and is to so many of us the greatest Batman of them all is gay. Conroy also said that he could relate to the character as being a closeted gay man, he could understand Bruce's secret identity and having to put up a front. Here is a comic Conroy did about it, it's really good. Sadly Conroy as you may know passed away just last year. As you can see, Batman again much like the Doctor, was not canonically gay, and did have female love interests, but his status as an outsider with a deep secret, his campy nature, the fact that he is in most versions celibate and shuns romantic relationships with women (for his work.) Gave him a special appeal to gay people that a character like say Superman or obviously James Bond wouldn't have.

Oh one thing to mention is that Bob Kane Batman's "creator" was a homophobic shit. To be fair he was probably just a man of his time, but even then his comments about "fags" are disgusting.
Don't worry though Kane wasn't Batman's creator anyway. He came up with the name Batman and that is it. He was also a shit artist too. Bill Finger was the one who came up with everything else from his identity as billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, to his origins, to Gotham city, to Commissionar Gordon, to Alfred, to Robin, to most of his villains like the Joker, (with other writers like Jerry Robinson contributing) to even his look and costume. Sadly Kane stole it all from him and others like Robinson and took the credit.
Here is an example of how well liked Bob Kane is. Hilarious story.
Bill Fingers son meanwhile was gay and had a good relationship with his dad who accepted him, so I guess that's just further reason for the gay community to embrace Batman. I believe that Fingers son even scattered his ashes in the shape of a bat on a beach?

Huh, interesting. Yeah I guess I can see that. I think Doctor Who has an overwhelming number of gay fans because it's a show that panders to outsiders and outcasts; and if you're gay, you're probably some sort of outcast (mostly on a parental basis to be fair).

Absolutely, though hopefully in regards to gay people being outsiders that's now becoming a thing of the past. It is insane though to think how recent something as horrifying as a section of the population being criminalized for existing was. You've got people who aren't even that old, we're talking 50s and 60s here who were alive when being gay was illegal! Here's hoping by the time my generation have their grand kids that being gay is no more of a big deal than preferring Adele to Amy Winehouse (actually that does piss me off as Amy is so much better than Adele LOL.)

Even Patsy Kensit is better than Adele. It's not hard. I think that what annoyed me about Adele was that back in 2011 when she first hit it really big, her fans shat on every other contemporary female singer to big her up. Amy, Paloma Faith, Lady Gaga (in particular) they all got told they were inferior to Adele in the media. To be fair to Adele she never bad mouthed Amy. On the contrary she propped her up. However I do think she bad mouthed Gaga, and worse in a very discreet, underhanded way like "Oh I like Gaga, BUT, I'm much better because I don't have to use my looks or sex appeal to sell records." That's all Adele used to say in the media, like this pretentious statement here. Personally I think that hurt Gaga and other female singers careers for a long while as it became a thing that only true female singers don't use their looks or even have OTT acts. Ironically that mindset itself is very sexist, as nobody gives a shit when a man uses sex in his music and image or shags about like Jim Morrison, or Freddie Mercury. No one will say that B B King is automatically better than David Bowie because his image is more toned down. Yeah you can prefer B B King obvs, but it's to do with the music, which for male performers people can appreciate many different kinds. When it comes to women however then if she is sexy, or dances around on stage like Freddie and Bowie, then she is a filthy whore betraying women and Adele is automatically a real singer compared to the one who dances about. To me it's never a good sign when something has to shit on everything else to be made out to be the best. Game of Thrones was another one that I took against for that reason. It drove me mad the way that every single fantasy series would get shat on to build up GOT as the adult one. It's very insecure. Things that are popular on their own merit don't have to do that, like Lady Gaga, Classic Who, Star Trek, etc. Obviously there will always be people that compare something to something else, and rivalries among the fans, but overall it's fair to say that when Amy hit it big, or True Who was at its most popular, there wasn't an attitude of "everything of this type that has come before is utter shit." Having said that I don't mind Adele's music as some of the others here. I think she does have a good voice, and I'm not so petty I can't acknowledge that, but her success ironically I think was bad for female singers in some ways because of her attitude towards other women.

I just saw online that Jenna Coleman doesn't like to do conventions anymore because of creepers. Such a shame, but I will say it's quite a funny coincidence that this happened when the feminist side of fandom took over? Male feminists, always got something to hide.

I find that a bit hard to believe, tbh. You're not telling me Jenna hasn't met considerably more creepers in the industry...

Freema Agyeman never did much for me, in terms of attraction, acting or her character. Catherine Tate saved the Tennant era!
only posting this to annoy Burrunjor

Shows an appalling lack of taste on your part LOL. Can we all agree that the other big nosed goddess Shobna Gulati is the most gorgeous woman ever to have anything to do with DW at any point, and I mean anything? Even watching it LOL.
