I think it is impossible to parody DW at this stage. When morons used to say the Doctor can be anything I, and others like Rob used to joke "oh well let's have the next Doctor be a Brontosaurus, or a Penguin." It's almost like RTD and the others read that and thought "good idea."
For all I know they did. Not our comments specifically, but maybe someone else made a joke like that to them. I look forward to seeing Doctor Shark.

Changing canon is motivated by fuel for narcissistic personality disorders on the writing team. Giving away the Doctors origins, bringing in romance, these are all things that could have been done in 1963. It's writers who know if their stories aren't good enough to be remembered on their own, they can at least go in the history books as a second option. These changes are banal but treated as earth-shattering.
