Wheeling out the Hollywood royalty for a British icon.
It's looking desperate.
RTD cast him ahead of Barrowman.
Salty.

How is it desperate? Jodie's era had Alan Cumming.

For me, it's a culmination of:
> Bringing back a former show runner from an era when the ratings were riding high
> Chibnall's era being cut very short (don't let the padding out, courtesy of smaller seasons and break periods fool you)
> A sharp decline in ratings throughout the Chibnall/Whittaker partnership
> Fan backlash that has even been present on Gallifrey Base
> The guest casting of NPH, a household name (far more than Alan Cumming). Keeping in mind, this isn't a commentary on talent or calibre of work. It's simply to do with the fact that NPH would be a more well-known name in households than AH. "How I Met Your Mother" was a ratings juggernaut. Bigger than The Good Wife.

RTD was always about chasing the big rating, and yes, the show does need a strong injection of variety and star power to recuperate from the dwindling ratings, but I don't agree that it's 'desperation', people have said the show's been 'desperate' since it was in very rude health

"How I Met Your Mother" was a ratings juggernaut. Bigger than The Good Wife. Agreed with all of this. Chibnall was boasting about a 5 year plan remember and he managed 2 and a half. To me the best fans can hope for is that RTD will do a McCoy, Angel season 5 and give the revival era a few good years to go out on. I personally think the damage is too big to fix. I may be wrong, but to me the current one is stuck thanks to Chibnall. It can't carry on with the Timeless Children as no one wants that. If it does erase Jodie however that will provoke too much of a backlash from the Claudia Boleyn types. Again love Claudia, but obviously her side of the audience have been pandered to the last few years, so even if they are a minority, to do a 180 on them will make the culture wars crap shoot up through the roof. Really a break is needed before the Timeless Children can be written out. Personally though I wish RTD had picked a better household name than that c*nt Neil Patrick Harris. Honestly couldn't he have picked someone like Famke Janssen? Or James Marsters? Everybody likes James Marsters.

Yeah, honestly, I don't see "desperate" to be honest. It's just that, much as it may pain me to say it, RTD knows what he's doing, at least in terms of both media-baiting, normie-pleasing and fan-pleasing, and Chinballs never knew how to do any of them.
