Today sadly marks twenty years since John passed away. He's my favourite Doctor Who producer and I love a lot of the stories he produced particularly those in the McCoy era. What are your favourite JNT era stories?

He's not my favourite (that's Graham Williams) and he made some mistakes, but unlike the crowd in charge since 2005 was usually willing to admit them. Season 20, 22, 25 and 26 are some of my all time fave seasons, and even outside of that the likes of Decay, Earthshock, Androzani et al are some of the best stories ever. Deserves way more respect than he still gets.

JNT isn't my favourite producer but gets much kudos in that he kept the show on the road for as long as his did during very trying and hostile times with the BBC. His era is marked with a constant state of flux and change which is where he often provoked contention amongst some of fandom, but I think on balance although he did on occassion drop the ball and get some things wrong, he got just as much right too.
I think it's a shame he didn't get to work on a soap opera and realise his full potential rather than the legacy he was left with, but there is still much to enjoy within his era.
I must confess, I do prefer his era to the Williams era. I see JNT's era as a sort of Barry Letts in a constant state of flux and perhaps lacking the focus and cosiness.

80s Who may not be my favourite (That'll be Lambert and Innes Lloyd) and his era does have it's foibles such as the way Colin's Doctor and the series was neutered (which was primarily Grade's fault but in context of the era it's a sore-spot) briefly only to bounce back with Season's 25 and 6, dialling back the humour a little too much early on with S18 and the attempts at trying to bring Star Wars esque creations to life on a shoestring budget (although to be fair Williams did that too to an extent) but I respect him for bending over backwards to help the show post-85 considering the situation that was forced onto him by Grade and his Covent of c*nts and he had more classics under his belt than the Fitzroy Gang put together.
Full Circle, Decay, Traken, Black Orchid, Earthshock, Snakedance, Mawdryn, Enlightenment, 5 Doctors, Awakening, Frontios, Androzani, most of Season 22 and 25 and the entirety of 26

My favourite era of Doctor Who, show did so many different things, not every writer's story 'landed', but when they did, they were exceptional. The show had something to prove due to the gun against it's head and that can lead to competitive, less laid back television.
