I feel very strongly about this situation. I do NOT support Putin's actions. I am 100 percent against his foreign intervention and government not just for its imperialistic ambition, but its vile prejudice against LGBT people and have always been. However at the same time Zelensky isn't a hero and this hysteria over Ukraine that the media are shamelessly whipping up is leading us into a war. America installed a puppet government in Ukraine in 2014 as part of their conflict with Russia. Zelensky has also not only had Nazi's in his government, but has been shelling the east of Ukraine for the past 8 years to try and undermine Russia. He has killed over 14000 of his own people. With this in mind, a conflict with Russia of some kind was inevitable. Now again this still doesn't justify Putin's intervention. Neither Russia or America should be in that country in the first place, but it's more complicated than the evil Rusky's just want to invade somewhere. It's more two imperialistic powers carving up a smaller helpless country for their own ambitions.
Also the boycotting of all things Russian is extremely hypocritical from the West and exposes the racism in our own society. This would be the same Europe who either did nothing or in some cases supported the US's invasion of countries like Iraq, Libya, Honduras, Cuba, Chile, Cambodia, Vietnam, Venezuala, Korea? Hell my country Scotland which is now refusing to play any Russian football teams, played a friendly the week after the infamous massacre in Chile's National Stadium orchestrated by the US backed Augusto Pinochet! Similarly Eurovision who held an event in Israel which has been attacking Palestine for decades and allowed the UK to enter the competition the year we backed the war in Iraq have now banned Russia on moral grounds? The reason for this is not only because we have a dog in this fight against Putin, but also sadly because all these middle eastern/ Muslim countries with dark skinned people are viewed as less deserving of our sympathy than a fellow white European one. All this "we can't believe this is happening to a country with people like us, in Europe." Has certainly betrayed a vile racist attitude.
Also at the same time there is a lot of racial hatred towards the Russians as well. A Russian friend of mine in Germany was refused service at a resturant just this week. All of these racist attitudes and the dislike of Putin are being used by the media into whipping us up into being willing to go to war to protect the West's interests in Ukraine. It really is just WW1 again when we had several imperialistic powers all potentially as bad as each other, going to war over who got to carve up smaller countries. Remember that bit in Blackadder? "George the British Empire covers a quarter of the earth's surface. The German empire is a small sausage factory in Munich. We can hardly be absolved of imperialistic ambition." That's pretty much what we have now. The west who invaded dozens of countries in the middle east are now convincing their people that foreign intervention must never be tolerated when it threatens their interests and are happy to sacrifice millions of us and Ukranians to do that. Everyone is always worried about there being another Hitler, that nobody ever stops and thinks what if there is another WW1, which is actually far more likely. Hitler only rose due to a very specific set of circumstances which thankfully aren't likely to emerge any time soon. Even in racist countries. WW1 however that was just a pissing contest between imperial powers, with the public duped into thinking their side were the good guys, is far more likely to happen today with Putin and the West and the media is leading us into that, just like it did Iraq.
I just hope that cooler heads prevail our else this could be the end. What was that old quote? "I do not know which weapons WW3 will be fought, but WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones."
