Ok folks whats your faviort ship from any series and why.
For me my mind always comes back to the Dessula II, from Space Battleship Yamato.
Antonius Command Ship
Primary Vessel
Dessula II is the flagship of Great Garmillas Empire ruler Abelt Dessler.
Officially dubbed a "Special Class-1 Astro Combatant Ship," it is the only vessel of its type in the imperial fleet, and the only one to be armed with a wave motion gun. The Desura II is crewed by soldiers and officers of the Imperial Guard, but it also carries several hundred armed Garmilloid robot troops. Stored in compartments along the outer hull, the robots can be deployed on individual jetpacks that allow them to manoeuvre freely in space toward enemy targets. The ship can also directly access and override control of the computer systems of other Garmillas facilities.
Armaments:
Dessler Cannon - A Wave Motion Gun
6 480 mm triple-barreled positron beam cannon turrets
6 330 mm triple-barreled positron beam cannon turrets
6 330 mm triple-mount positron beam turrets
51 wing, aft, and ventral mounted torpedo launch tubes
Harpoon Cables
Autonomous command ship:
6 point defense guns around bridge
4 bow torpedo launch tubes
Length:
638 meters (primary vessel)
252 meters (autonomous command ship)
This ship is the "final boss" of the series, there are several reasons I like this ship. I love the colour and design, but more then that I have always had a big soft spot for evil dopplgangers. The Dessula II is this to the series' hero ship the Yamato. What makes it stand out is it's Wave Motion Gun, a weapon the villains were thought not to possess. Wave Motion Guns are basically lasers on steroids, with it's proper name is the "Dimensional Wave Motion Explosive Compression Emitter". The wave motion engine sits at the core of the ship's reactor unit, and provides power by expanding compactified higher dimensions that are curled up as Calabi-Yau manifolds. With the expansion of the higher dimensions, energy is released into the wave motion reactor into the gravity wave compression chambers and the tachyon particle oscillator control unit. A super-gravity wave is created and directed towards the muzzle of the wave motion gun, generating a stream of micro black holes. These micro black holes rapidly evaporate and have their mass-energy fully converted into Hawking radiation in the process, and that is the source of the wave motion gun's destructive capabilities.
The Yamato's WMG could blow up objects the size of Australia, but the Dessler Cannon proved powerful enough to destroy a planet. Exactly why it is more powerful is never explained, though it's likely that Emperor Abelt Dessler prioritised the weapons destructive potential over safety. Another answer possibly lays in in the fact the two cannons fire different colour beams, the Yamato's is blue, while the Dessula II's is violet. Given that the colour violet is a shorter wavelength than blue, it could suggest that the Dessler Cannon uses denser energy particles.
Since it has a WMG, it must also have a Wave Motion Engine as it is able to use subspace corridors to achieve faster then light travel.
Originally the Dessler Cannon appeared to be built into the Dimensional Mobile City Fortress Second Baleras, which acted as the new mobile capital city for the Garmillas Empire, allowing it to function in a manner similar to the Death Star.
However in reality the Autonomous Command Ship part of the Dessula II was docked in the Baleras' cannon. After Baleras was destroyed by the Yamato crew, Dessula II became the seat of power for Abelt Dessler for two months until his ill-fated attempt at revenge against the Yamato.
What can I say, I do love over-powered weapons built into personal spaceships.
