Hopefully this will get our resident Rani clown out of hiding. (LOL just joking Rani you know we love you.)
I'll say that New Who did the following things better than classic who.
Story arcs.
This is more the RTD era. I liked the Cult of Skaro story arc. Whilst Journey's End is a bit of a mess, I do love the development of Dalek Caan, and also the way that Sec realises the Daleks are evil, but tries to save them and dies. Whilst Caan who ironically turned against Sec, realises the same thing but is smart enough just to wipe them out LOL. I also loved the way that each Dalek story led into the next one. I can remember being excited at what would happen next when both Sec and Caan fled.
I also think that RTD was brilliant when it came to bringing so many seemingly unconnected story threads together. For instance the Doctors hand being chopped off. Who would have thought that would prove pivotal in saving every universe? Also Mr Cooper being left on earth at the end of Voyage of the Damned, again that comes back in Journey's End as he's the one that built up all the technology that allowed them to summon the Doctor. Harriet Jones being deposed etc.
All of these story arcs eventually came together, but were able to stand as stories on their own which I think is the best way to do it. That way it can all be connected, but it's not like the Silence where everything only happens because of one story.
I don't think the original series was ever very good at story arcs if I'm honest. The Key to Time was pretty crap. I liked most of the individual stories in it, but as an arc it was basic, and the ending was very poorly done. I also similarly don't think Trial was a good story arc either. Ace meanwhile had potential, but it was a bit more vague than the Cult of Skaro.
The Daleks (in some ways)
Overall classic who had vastly better Dalek stories, and the Daleks themselves were more effective in various ways throughout the classic era too.
However that said I think the RTD era did a better job of making the Daleks seem like the Doctors archfoes and his deadliest enemies. RTD had them be behind every tragedy the Doctor suffered (time war, losing Rose, losing Donna, 9th Doctors death.) He also made them the biggest threat. (Every universe) made them the only enemies he hated, and had them be behind the major story arcs in the series.
Sadly in the classic era I don't think the Daleks ever really came over as the Doctors archfoes quite as much. They never killed a Doctor, they never killed a companion directly and whilst they were dangerous, there were other foes who were more powerful than they were, like Sutekh. Hell even in their own stories, other aliens kicked their arses. The Movellans, the Moroks in the Space Museum etc.
In the 80s meanwhile I think the Daleks faded into the background. They were only in 3 stories, they didn't have any significance in any Doctors story arc, were actually quite weak as they had been wiped out almost by the Movellans and even in the stories they did appear in they were secondary to Davros.
It can't be denied the RTD era made them a bigger deal than ever before.
Other things I liked about New Who.
Great choices for the 11th and 12th Doctors.
Martha, Amy, Rory, Jack, Osgood (obvs LOL) Paternoster Gang, even Rose in series 1, all very good actors, companions and supporting characters.
I'm going to be controversial and say I didn't mind the War Doctor either. It was a neat idea, very shocking but made sense and John Hurt was excellent as always.
The run of episodes from series 3 to series 7 is very good, barring the odd dud. Series 5 represents the pinnacle of the revival meanwhile with the best TARDIS team and the best stories like Vincent and the Doctor and the Angels two parter.
The Angels themselves I thought were very good monsters. To be honest they are better than a lot of classic era monsters, barring classics like the Daleks, Cybermen, Sutekh etc.
Whilst I'm not so keen on Torchwood I rather liked a shared Doctor Who universe during the RTD era. There is so much in the DW universe that I'm amazed there haven't been more spin offs.
Also the Sarah Jane Adventures was great for the most part.
So there Rani we're not all against New Who here LOL. In some ways yes it did improve some things on the original, but it ultimately fell victim to its own "all change is good" mantra and ended up being more concerned with rewriting it's own past and making the "anoraks cry" to the point where every f*cking season revolves around the Doctor's past being changed in some way.
