Years ago I remember seeing the likes of Jubilee and Spare Parts and other usual suspects being called the greatest ever Big Finish's . Had a look around recently of what fan opinion now considers their greatest ever stories, and they, well, seem to be the same. Haven't listened to much of them for years. Are the glory days over?
Mainly, I want advice, what are the recent greats of Big Finish? (Would prefer it if they weren't stories where you have to have listened to the previous 15 stories to understand it)

Yes. I think that may be an oxymoron.

I haven't heard any since 2016. From what I did hear, the early ones were pretty good, less so the later ones. Though The Romance of Crime adaptation was nice, as was The Nightmare Fair. But the novelty of them wore off quick for me, and I can only roll my eyes at them now with their endless recasting of classic actors entering the realm of parody.

To be fair to them, their new First Doctor series with David Bradly impressed me a lot. It has the entire first season Tardis crew recast and takes place between season 1 & 2.
Bradly dose a great job, now he's not tied to nuwho crap writing, and the series remained pretty good throughout save for the final story released. Hallow Crown begins dipping into nuwho territory, both figuratively and literally, to the stories slight detriment. Carole Ann Ford makes a cameo apperances.
A lot of the First stores were quite good though there are some tedious patches. I think they did "the planet is alive" plot 3 or 4 times. The Vardan story arc was solid imo.
The Second Doctor's stories were of a generally even better, especially once Hines became the defacto Second Doctor voice actor. The Wreck of the World was easily one of the best stories I'd ever listened to from BF.
Then again these older stories are usually kept pretty safe from any nuwho contamination given their placement. The Time War just about touches the First doctor's era though it is never named.

I'd keep well clear of anything time war related as it's getting pretty out of hand theses day.
They cannot even decide the origin of the blood time war Dalek Emperor, with 3 sperate origins for him.
