Land of the Giants is basically Lost in Space 2.0. revolving around a similar group of shipwrecked space cadets, with the focus being on a slimy, cowardly idiot and the brave child he travels with. If you like Lost in Space I'd give it a go, though from what I remember some of our users here weren't too hot on LIS, but seemed to quite like Land of the Giants?
It's arguably better than Lost in Space in the following ways.
1/ It has a more clear view of what it wanted to be from the start. Lost in Space started out as a serious show, but then became a comedy by the end of its first series, and the changeover was quite jarring to the point that to this day debate still rages on over what was better. (For me it was the comedy, without question that as I've pointed out in other threads inspired Red Dwarf, Rick and Morty and Futurama to some extent.) Still Land of the Giants is more consistent in tone and many would say quality.
2/ The cowardly backstabbing character similarly is less ridiculous. Smith started out as a thoroughly hateful character and it became ridiculous that they didn't either kill him or banish him after he made numerous attempts on their life. Fair enough when it becomes a comedy this works brilliantly, as it's part of the joke over what saps the Robinson's are (plus Smith is more unintentionally dangerous in those ones.) Still in the earlier stories it can be hard to take seriously. However they get the cowardly backstabber's role right from the start as more of a bumbling lovable idiot.
3/ Land of the Giants also has more of a concrete ending than Lost in Space which ultimately came to just a grinding halt.
In many ways you could say that Irwin Allen learned what did and didn't work on Lost in Space, IE cowardly traitor is better than an evil one, and worked from there, making Giants more polished.
Personally though I'd still say Lost in Space is the better of the two as it was much more imaginative, had a wider range of stories and antagonists it could us, it's humour when it worked was a lot crazier and more original, Dr Smith whilst admittedly it took longer to get him right was a lot more groundbreaking and outrageous a character, and again it was ultimately more influential, but still Land of the Giants is definitely worth a look.

Rewatched the 'Fathers and Suns' episode of Red Dwarf. There's an absolutely hilarious in-joke.
Rimmer devises a female computer interface with 36D cup breasts. Because of Kryten's interference, the crew never sees them. However, the casting director still hired an actress with 36D cups... that we never see.

The Rise and Fall of Boris Johnson (2024- Channel 4). One episode in.
Interesting to hear that Johnson (according to an associate) had to work himself into a frenzy by shouting and swearing at a plant on his desk for 10 minutes in order to write articles slagging off the EU…
I’ll offer a more thorough take once I’ve watched the whole thing. So far, this is very interesting- if ultimately depressing given the subject matter…

Regarding the EU, i recall he had both IN and OUT positions prepared, and didn't make his mind up until the last minute. I'm sure he has some sort of personality disorder. His dad is a weird f*cker too. Probably where he gets it from.

Coventry vs Man United in the FA Cup Semi Final.
Fair play to Coventry for getting this far, but the problem with these types of finals is that there's clearly a gulf in quality between the second division side and the Premier League team. 2-0 to United at the moment and it seems like it's pretty much over now. I hope the final is closer.

I've been keeping up to date with the drama on Sky Sports involving Nottingham Forest's viral tweet (seen 43 million times) questioning the integrity of the PGMOL (match officials) after they were denied three obvious penalties in the game. All I can say is that I agree 100% with Forest and think plebs like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher should stop sucking up to the PGMOL and admit that there IS corruption in football at the highest level. I'm so happy lots of fans are with Nottingham Forest on this. The pundits going after the club for it are what's wrong with football. Absolute puppets on a string.

Watched 20 minutes of “The Red King”- created by Toby Whithouse- and turned it off. Laughably bad on every conceivable level, and bafflingly lauded by the Guardian and Telegraph. It’s essentially The Wicker Man without the artistry and Hot Fuzz without the sharp comedy (the pub owner is a poor emulation of Timothy Dalton’s character in the latter). Frankly, I’d rather have watched either of those two.
It’s also amusingly packed with former NuWho actors (including Marc Warren) delivering dreadful performances, albeit partly the result of equally dreadful direction and scripting. The dialogue- in delivery and conception- is redolent of GCSE drama, and had the whole family asking how this thing got commissioned.
In the meantime, I thought Netflix’s “Ripley” was good. Although it wasn’t anywhere near as warmly received by the aforementioned papers…

Someone who knew the family states in the series that his Mum told them that Stanley Johnson beat her, although Johnson’s siblings refute this in a note at the end of the first episode. It wouldn’t surprise me if he had Narcissistic Personality Disorder, although it clearly didn’t emerge from a vacuum…

Survivors - The Last Laugh
Ian McCulloch was allowed to write his own exit from the show, and the entire episode feels like he's venting about how much better it all could've been. It's a gritty, intense and action-packed piece of post-apocalyptic drama.
Gone is the endless yammering about wheat and methane, gone are the drunken shenanigans of sex pest Charles Vaughan (as much as I love him), gone are the inane plotlines about minor arguments that somehow span 45 minutes.
It stands out like a sore thumb within a show that had become very cozy and predictable.

The last season of Survivors is a slog for the most part, but some stand out episodes like that and Mad Dog and the finale almost save it they're so great.

I'd still take the last season over the second, where they just chill at the farm almost the entire time. It's like a parody of The Walking Dead's second season.

Truly one of the best revials ever is getting the send off it deserves. Love the fact that it's being split into three parts and also that they've increased the episode count from 10 to 15. This has been an incredible journey. NuWho doesn't have a quarter of the love Cobra Kai has for its source material.

Why wasn't Survivors like this all the time? Could have watched this episode forever.
