2 hours and 55 minutes! I've complained about this before, but why do modern movies have to be so bloody long? A two hour and forty three minute Bond film was bad enough, but a three hour Batman film is way too long. Sucks for you if you have to go to the toilet two hours into it because you'll either have to hold it in for another hour or go and miss some of the film. 90-120 minutes is fine. I enjoy a few films that are longer, but three hours is taking the piss.

I enjoy a few films that are longer, but three hours is taking the piss. I'll probably give it a look when it comes out, but a long runtime either implies that it'll be an involving epic or a bloated mess, and bugger knows what this'll be. That said, I think we differ in that I tend to like longer films anyway. Loads of my favourites tend to extend past the 140 minute duration, and at the end of the day, if a film is immersive enough, the length doesn't tend to factor into it for me. The problem, for me at least, is that lots of run of the mill Marvel style blockbusters today, which don't exactly display anything unique or immersive, also tend to be about as long as a 1950s David Lean epic. Context is everything, and if the runtime isn't justified, that's when it goes tits up.

Dear God. It might not be so bad if modern films weren't invariably so effing boring.

I'm curious to see this when it comes out as I'm on a bit of a Batman high after watch Batman 89' the other day. I just hope it's not another ultra realistic interpretation like the Nolan films but it will probably will be. People don't like fun Batman anymore.

I don't think it will be that as the Penguin and the Riddler are in it and they are quite campy. BTW have you ever watched Gotham? It's an awesome series. It has the best ever version of the Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler. It's Joker is pretty f*cking awesome too, but I wouldn't say he is the best only because almost every version of the Joker has been amazing. Gotham is extremely campy. It's more Tim Burton camp however, in that it's still very dark, but kind of fairy talesque. At times and some of the writing gets lazy and repetitive, but it's always carried by the strength of its characters and cast. (The guy who plays the Penguin is f*cking brilliant. He is a true genre icon for that character. I'm just amazed he didn't have a mental breakdown playing the part as he is CONSTANTLY ON EDGE every second he is on screen LOL.) Batman is still the best comic book character for me. I think he, the Doctor (1953-1989) and Xena are the three best heroes in my opinion as more can be done with them than any other. Of those three Batman has obviously been best served. The good Doctor has been maligned in one form or another since 1989, whilst Xena has been largely forgotten. Shame as I'd have loved to have seen a Xena remake with Gina, but alas we all know what happened there.

These days western comics and there adaptions have very little appeal to me outside of Hulk and Spider-Man, my to favourites as a kid. I do enjoy Batman, he was a major cartoon icon of the 90s after all, these days even he can’t real grab my interest.

That's true, but judging from the trailers this Riddler seems to be a lot darker than the other live action Riddlers. I certainly don't expect him to be like Jim Carrey's version. I haven't seen Gotham, no. It's streaming on Netflix so I might give it a look one day. I love Batman too although my favourite comic book character is definitely Superman.

He's being portrayed by Paul Dano, so I'm hardly surprised, considering his broader catalogue. He's a superb actor though, so I'm intrigued. Then again, my preference isn't for a Carrey style Riddler- it'd be for one in the vein of the Animated Series. Methodical and calculating, yet elusive. This might resemble that, although the film seems to be taking cues from David Fincher's films, so he could well be a John Doe type akin to that in "Se7en". I'm guessing the film will amalgamate the Animated Series (which itself had shades of the Burton films) with Fincher's aesthetic, so it'll be dark, albeit more stylised. It could well be crap though. I'll give it a look on release and see.

If it's crap and I got bored within an hour then I'm pretty much in hell for the next two hours.
