Don't worry, I think he's pish.
But I do have to defend him in one respect. Go to Youtube and it is awash with videos saying Chibnall has strayed away from the grand vision of RTD, that he is the very opposite of the Welsh blowhard gobshite. I simply ask, how? To me a more loyal disciple you could ever find.
Hollywood effects that take months to achieve being used on a script that looks like it was written in five minutes Anti-intellectual Celebrity obsession Not realising wacky is the opposite of funny Tedious obsession with identity politics (which is, as we all know, just neoliberalism disguised as leftism) Stories that can't have more epic beginnings fizzling to a confusing fokk all at the end Sassy dialogue. Sassy just being morons acting like they're clever Bringing back old monsters and ruining them Romance that just doesn't work in a show like this. Romance they could have easily included in 1963, but didn't, cause they knew it was a show about spaceships and green aliens for fokk sake. Acting like British television has no history before 2002, where it was invented in response to Buffy and Sex And The City
So in this narrow respect, I will defend Chibbers to the death. Have these Youtubers ever watched any RTD Who before? Got a warning for them, here comes the new boss, same as the old boss.

In defence of Chris Chibnall... he's always been a talentless hack, so what did they think would happen when they put this twat in charge?!

The line that the shill media seem to be running with (now that it's politically acceptable to acknowledge the failure of this era) is that it tanked because it was too much like the classic series, which can only mean that they've never watched the classic series in their entire lives. Series 11 can basically be summed up as all the worst aspects of the RTD era on steroids with that era's few redeeming qualities thrown overboard. From what little I've seen, Series 12 & 13 seem to have a similar relationship to the Moffat era. If you strip away the few things that NuWho ever did reasonably well and exaggerate its flaws to such an extent that it could literally be a parody, the Chibnall era is what you're left with.

Very odd New Who, it seems permanently stuck in it's Adam West era (if the Adam West era wasn't funny). Why is moving on to the Who equivalent Burton or Nolan era such an anathema to the BBC? It's not as though they weren't commercially popular either. Gurning over drama, move on for f*cks sake

Gurning over drama, move on for fokks sake Yeah, although I'd say it's more comparable to Schumacher than the Adam West era, in that the comedy and its obnoxious self-awareness/tonal inconsistency is shrill as opposed to charming.

Yeah, it's like if Batman And Robin was a smash hit, and Hollywood ever since laughed in the face of any loser fanboy wanting to deviate from the winning Arnie Mr Freeze and panto Bane formula.
