I've always been a bit mixed on the story, but last time I watched it I thought it was fantastic. I really see why it's considered the best story and I think its superiority in terms of direction and drama is more evident when you watch the stories in order. I like Resurrection more than this, but Caves feels like a proper TV finale (even though it isn't one) and an absorbing piece of television. What I like so much about Season 21 in particular is that it takes the kindest Doctor and throws him into hellish situations. Death follows him everywhere he goes and in Caves he's pushed to his very limits.

Glad you like it now, Maxil. That being said, it is a little overrated and I don't regard it as being among my absolute faves, as the lack of humour and hope does rather go against some of the reasons I love Who in the first place.

I actually find Resurrection more entertaining, but Caves is a stand-out purely for the levels of stella acting and direction on display, in much the same way Inferno or Seeds of Doom are.

Sometimes I think Caves is more Eric Sward's script than Bob Holmes'. Either that's a result of Eric's script-editing or because of how chummy and in-synch they were at the time.
