So I've recently had a big swing back into one of my faviort horror franchises. Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is in no small part due to the fact that new multiplayer game based on first film has been announced. So I'm going to proper review of this series, and I'm going to try and make it more in depth then anything I've done befor. Befor I post anything I'll watch the film, and all the dvd/blu rays extra content, all the while taking notes with a notebook my wife got me, then provide and informative review with my insights. I likely will not start this until after Christmas day and will be watching Ultraman and Doctor Who in between to prevent burn out. Also my list of films may be a bit surprising as it will included films not under the TCM IP.
Review Order List
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Eaten Alive
The Funhouse
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
Texas Chainsaw 3D
Leatherface
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
As you might have noticed there art to films on that list that you may not recognise. Death Trap and The Funhouse here films by Tobe Hooper after TCM and pre his work on films like Poltergeist and Lifeforce. One I have seen, the other I haven't, however both seems to be almost like sibling films to first TCM. In fact some fans feel they are more like sequels then many of the actual ones. So I've decided to include them in both my reviews and in my collection. I may also look into doing review of the comic books afterwards also.
So the big question is why? Well I'd like to have stab at trying to do more in depth reviews then I normally do, as I have been inspired by fellow hive members burrunjor and iank. As to why this franchise of all things, well thats a little harder to put into words. TCM is not like other horror franchises, and I've seen all the greats and most of the cult classics. It occupies a strange place in the genre thats all it's own. It's also one of the most genuinely varied in quality, at least as I think of it now. I have also not seen all the films on this list, and from memory all save one of them had stuff I enjoyed. We also have the new film coming in February, which from the rumours is not shaping up to be a master piece but I want to see it for myself and judge it through my lens.
So with that all said I hope you'll all join me on this examination of one of the most bizarre horrors film franchises in the annals of film history... The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
