Anyone else have a fascination with these creatures? I have been interested in them for a long while. The idea that we could still fall prey to a simple beast has always been a source of morbid interest to me. There are some fascinating (and terrifying) videos about Sharks online, but this one is probably the most frightening. It's honestly like something out of a horror movie.

Nice to know I’m not the only one who finds that morbid idea of fascinating. Sharks are amazing creatures, I will say that our fear of them is a bit undeserved and they are the most demonised creature by us humans. Still I love me a good shark movie, though sadly many are bargain bin trash. Dose anyone here remember Eye Witness, that artsy educational series? The first one I ever owned was Sharks.

To be honest I've always had a fascination with the ocean in general. It's such a vast, terrifying place. Some of my absolute best childhood memories are visiting aquariums.
I can remember spending so long watching the Sharks, waiting for them to attack the other creatures LOL, and being so thrilled at getting the models of sea creatures in the shop.
Sharks were obviously the favourite, but I remember being so excited at getting all the others. I used to be impressed with Squids but then I found out they were the Sperm Whale's bitch LOL.

Pretty sure the people in the video I posted don't LOL. (Though even they would have to admit that little guy is cute.)

Like many youngsters of my generation, I became obsessed with sharks back in 1975 with the release of Jaws. My obsession continued with the grisly exploits of 'Hookjaw', the monstrous GWS from Action comic (I wrote a little poem about HJ and it was printed in the letters page back in 1976, I think).

I saw a shark movie once. It's the film where those three guys head out to sea to track down a shark that had been terrorising an island. I think it was called Shark Tale.

View AttachmentAh good ok Hookjaw, what a great comic. I’ve got the omnibus at home. There are a few other shark themed comics around but none can hold a candle to this. There was a new version but it was way to heavy on the modern politics for my taste. The was another shark comic called White, but it had the same problem. Hookjaw himself would go on to inspire other killer animal comics. Theirs Shako, a killer polar bear on the FBI death list, and of course Flesh! As cool as Sharks are though, I have to say these days I take more of an interest in man-eating big cats. Sharks are amazing predators but Big Cats put them to shame. There were 441 recorded fatal shark attacks 1958 and 2019 but looks a lot less impressive compared to the 373,000 fatalities of Tiger attacks that have been recorded between 1800 and 2009.

Yes - Shako! - loved that strip but not half as much as Flesh Scary Big Cat statistics -I'm fascinated with the sabre toothed tiger (Smilodon). Anyway, has anyone read this series of graphic novels? The artwork is gorgeous:

Yeah no kidding, 1000 people a year is hard record to beat. That said they to have advantages over the other to. Sharks a water bound and so can only attack someone in the water, while Big Cats go out of their way to avoid humans unless they are forced to hunt us. Plus most big cats have a far mor limited range then either sharks or crocs, as many live in isolated pockets due to over hunting. Crocs have the ambush ability of a cat plus the mentality of a shark, also their far less picky about what they eat. To give sharks credit though they have amazing senses and when they want to kill you, your fokked. A tiger shark can bite though your bones like a hot knife through butter, bull sharks can swim in fresh water and have the mood swings of a meth addict, Oceanic Whitetips are opportunistic and aggressive, and is reputed to be dangerous to shipwreck survivors.

My favourite shark film is actually Jaws 3. I love that one.
Sharks are scary creatures but they're very fascinating. I fear Crocodiles more, though.

The gruesome death of Red McNally - one of the truly great moments in British comics!! Though far less blood-thirsty, and much sillier, I still liked the toothless shark 'Gums' from Monster Fun Comic:
