I saw it on Friday It's not bad per say, the black female 00 agent is unremarkable and not worth the internet outrage there's been about her...the character of Paloma on the other hand has grace, beauty, tows the line between intelligent and just a tad ditzy, and she's only in it for ten minutes. She'd have been a great lay, but Bond doesn't do much womanising at all in this one, he's very monogamous throughout the film. I have a fondness for the name Paloma. You may have noticed LOL. PS she'd have done a great Bond theme.

That's why I'm interested in the film. A certain crowd immediately started making a big fuss about there being a black and female 007 and claiming that the producers had sold out to the SJW crowd and all that other jive. It seems there was never really anything to that after all. It sounds like it hasn't done a Doctor Who or a Star Wars. I'm not interested in these culture wars anymore either. I'm staying well clear of Nerdrotic and Bowelstreak and others like them.

This is a man who praised the RTD era as the absolute pinnacle of the show, as being on a par with Buffy, Star Trek TOS, etc. Also it's bowlestrek, though I don't know if that is deliberate LOL.

Whatever his name is, he's an idiot and rages for clicks. I don't like The Critical Drinker either. These channels only exist to be negative and I just can't deal with things like that anymore. Watching people like them and PJW honestly made me bitter and miserable.

I think it's a certainty they're going to reboot. Makes sense, I guess, given the Craigs were a reboot themselves.

I think it's a certainty they're going to reboot. Makes sense, I guess, given the Craigs were a reboot themselves. I didn't stay until the end credits had finished rolling but apparently the immortal phrase "James Bond will Return" DID appear. As dramatic as his 'killing-off' seemed it should be noted that whilst we saw the missiles explode all around him we didn't actually see him die, nor a body, nor even a funeral, so a return isn't entirely impossible (as ludicrous as that would be, as Bernard stated). Perhaps he and Safin will wash up on the shore together - they could get Rami back for that scene as he wouldn't need to show any less life than he did in his performance in No Time To Die. If the Lynch character was to take over as 007 and have her own spin-off surely they would have said "007 will return"? Therefore a reboot with the original character is more likely, once Aston Martin, Martini and various watch brands need to boost their flagging sales figures once more. As Bernard said earlier though I do think the film fell into the trap that stuff like Nu Who, The Hobbit films, Star Wars and Star Trek fell into of spending far too much of their time with continuity referencing the past or attempting to throw in their audience's faces how they're bringing it up-to-date, which always seem contradictory aims to me. And the stuff with the 'new' 007, Blofeld, the OHMSS references and even the Felix segments could arguably all have been cut to make a leaner, more powerful statement. If the aim was to use those sections to strengthen the theme of letting go of the past then they needed to be clearer about it, and have a more appropriate ending. I suppose getting blown to smithereens is one way to let go of it though...! PS Oh and does anyone else who's seen the film remember the Billie whatsername theme? It sounded Bond-esque enough but it was hardly an earworm!

Will post my review later on when I get back from seeing it. My right ear is clogged up which is a right bugger. I hope I can still hear the film.

Watching people like them and PJW honestly made me bitter and miserable. I'm not overly keen on the Critical Drinker. He seems to be a bit of a snob about a lot of things. A bit of a Mark Kermode who tends to go along with whatever the popular opinion is, hence his slavish praise of New Who and the MCU. Not saying anyone who likes them is just doing it to be popular obviously, but when he is so hard on other films and series for being silly and campy then it can be hard to take his opinion seriously. For instance he is really hard on Roger Moore for making Bond too campy. Seriously? The Moore films are worse for Bond than the Abzorbaloff, or the Anne Droid are for DW? What really made me think he was that kind of critic however was ironically when he praised a film I love. He claimed that the Spy Who Loved Me is the only film where Moore was good as Bond, because in that one he finally took it seriously. This is bullshit in every way. Moore is no less campy or funny in that film than in any of the others. In fact I'd say he was far darker in his first two films to be honest. I couldn't imagine the more moral, lighthearted Moore of the later films, threatening to break a young woman's arm like he did to Maude Adams, or manipulate a woman into bed in such a sleazy way like in Live and Let Die LOL. Those were more holdovers from Connery's darker Bond. If anything the Spy Who Loved Me is when the Roger Bond I'd say really came into his own by being the more moral, gentlemanly (but obviously still ruthless) and funny Bond. FFS the film ends with a knob gag that would make Rik Mayall proud LOL. To me the only reason the Critical Drinker is saying that is because sadly among the critics Moore gets it the hardest, whilst the Spy Who Loved Me is such a great film, it's the only one of his that is well regarded by the snobby mainstream critics. Maybe I'm wrong, I haven't seen enough of his vids to form a definite opinion, but it does strike me as being like that. Overall though I still say these guys are the lesser of two evils. They haven't destroyed fandom the way the SJWs did, and indeed if they were to become the dominant voices I don't think they'd be as bad. I do still agree with a lot of what they say, and I also appreciate the way they all stood up for Gina Carano, but they definitely need to watch that they don't become the very thing they hate. Sadly if the likes of Red Dwarf and Xena were to be made today I can easily see a lot of anti SJWs assuming that they were pandering and boycotting them and not giving them a chance. Again in all fairness it's still the SJWs that made it this way, through their constant race baiting and boasting about every black and female lead they cast, but that doesn't make it alright for the anti SJWs to do the same thing.

This is the strangest Bond movie I've ever seen. It was a combination of good stuff, bad stuff, boring stuff, exciting stuff and downright shocking stuff. I agree that the first half of the movie is intriguing, the Cuba segment being the most exciting. Ana de Armas is incredibly sexy in the film and I'm sad she didn't stick around for the rest of it. Am I still allowed to find Bond girls attractive or is that not allowed anymore? The movie loses momentum when the action switches to London. The stuff with Blofeld really didn't work for me and Safin is absolutely dreadful. Seriously, he's not in the movie very long and there's absolutely nothing to him. I like the Garden of Death reference to the YOLT novel, but apart from that he's completely worthless. He comes across as a wannabe Bond villain rather than a genuine threat. Madeleine Swann is very beautiful, but she's hardly the most exciting woman that has ever been in Bond's life and I just don't buy that he'd settle down with her of all people. Ana De Armas would have been a nice equal to Craig's Bond and she's the best Bond girl in the movie for me. The movie picks up again when Bond and Madeleine are chased through the forest. It's suspenseful and well shot and leads nicely into the island section. With the exception of Safin, this section is the most pulse pounding especially when he goes it alone and takes on all the baddies. His final scenes leading up to his death are actually quite moving, but it didn't hit me completely like it should have mainly because I've never been hot on Craig's Bond in the first place. If it were the Connery-Brosnan Bond instead I'd be really sad, but we've only followed this Bond for a mere five movies and I feel like I barely know him even then. It's well done though with an effective score from Hans Zimmer and good effects. The last scene is beautiful especially with the We Have All The Time in the World music over the top of it. I appreciated the references to previous Bond movies and Craig looked like he was enjoying himself. It's chalk and cheese when you him with the miserable bugger from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. M, Moneypenny (Harris is lovely although she's given very little to do in this one compared with the last one) and Q are very likeable and I love the portrait scene where you see Robert Brown's M. I didn't see Lee's portrait even though people said it was in that scene. Did anyone see it themselves? It's an enjoyable film that didn't really feel its length, but I feel cold for some reason. It's like I've watched a Bond film that wasn't really a Bond film. It's good but there isn't that "hell yeah" moment in the movie. It's magical when Moore goes over the cliff and you see the union jack parachute in Spy or when he goes off into outer space, but here there isn't really a moment where I thought "Wow, THIS is Bond!" It's a hard film to really judge and as I said it's the strangest in the series. I do feel like I've watched a good movie and yet I feel depleted anyway. Maybe the next Bond movie should have a bit more fun itself because I'm not sure this serious take works as escapist entertainment. OHMSS was serious but there's stuff in there that still makes you feel like you're in a fantasy world rather than a real one.

I've not seen it yet, but I plan too. I'd watch anything she was in. I do wish she would be in a big sci fi film though. She loves that shit as well. Much like Bowie her early look was entirely sci fi based, mother monster etc. She also said that Alien was her favorite (that wasn't to just kiss Ridley Scott's arse, she said that way back in 2008.) She also sampled the Godzilla theme in one of her songs back in 2008. Someone needs to snap her up as a sci fi queen. Back on topic away from the big nosed goddess LOL, I can't believe he slags off OHMSS? That is one of the best Bond films of all time. Really I'd say that Spy Who Loved Me, Live and Let Die, and OHMSS are the top three Bond movies, with You Only Live Twice coming in at fourth. If I'm honest I think Connery is overrated. Don't get me wrong I like Connery both as Bond and as an actor overall, but I do get fed up of the way all the snobs refuse too accept anyone other than Connery, and the way that a lot of the things they slag off Moore and others for, Connery's films do too! Overall Connery's films have aged far worse than Moore's too and to me they're just not as fun.

There's barely any presence from Malik, he only has about four or five scenes in the film and barely interacts with Bond other than a meeting and then a final confrontation. You see him chat more with Swann than you do Bond. They try to make Swann interesting, but she's constantly miserable and woefully acted. M is great, but Kinnear, Wishaw, and Harris really don't do much of anything. Action scenes are really good though, and Craig isn't sidelined and gets to go out on a high note...though his death is ridiculously overcomplicated and it simply exists to say "there is no way Craig comes back after this". "..the character of Paloma on the other hand has grace, beauty, tows the line between intelligent and just a tad ditzy, and she's only in it for ten minutes. By far the most enjoyable character in the film.

Overall Connery's films have aged far worse than Moore's too and to me they're just not as fun. I agree with three of those, but personally I don't like Live and Let Die. Guy Hamilton's Bond films look incredibly cheap compared to other instalments. Even Diamonds, which I like, has subpar action sequences and awful effects. Live and Let Die I find quite shoddy, but I don't think Moore really finds his feet until Spy. He's an outright thug in TMWTGG. As for Connery's films, Diamonds is the most enjoyable with YOLT coming in at a close second. The latter has gorgeous cinematography and that battle in the volcano is hands down the most epic showdown in the series. Goldfinger I can't stand and I don't know why people like it so much. Bond is useless and the scene with Pussy in the barn has not aged particularly well, has it? Dr.No has its moments but only really gets going in the second half. From Russia with Love is fine, but I wouldn't watch it over Moonraker or Octopussy. Thunderball is quite decent actually despite it being a bit too long. At least it has all the proper Bond elements and the location is more exotic than bloody Kentucky. It's not a bad time waster really. Overall I prefer the Moore era these days. His first two are hit and miss, but Spy to Octopussy is a great run. A View to a Kill is a film I go back and forth on. I've loved it and I've hated it and I don't think my opinion will ever settle. The Dalton films I just find really crap and creatively empty now.
