Amazing video. I have always despised Bill Maher. He always struck me as a cowardly panel show comedian type. I'll give him his due that he is maybe a bit braver in the way he goes after Islam, but even then he is a total twat, as he supports regime change wars that have led to a rise in the most radical forms of Islam around the world.
Glad to see other people waking up to what a c*nt he is.
Monk will probably like this video LOL.

I remember watching that Bill Maher clip recently.
Personally, having seen more and more of his output lately after initially not beong sure about him, I think he's one of the more sensible, sharp and sardonic voices out there, and the more he has guests on the more his views sound most close to mine. Is he not allowed to have a political opinion on America's wealth distribution etc because he's rich? Not always the strongest of arguments!
He seems to me to be warning against both extremes - flag shagging and flag burning.

It's not just because he is rich. He is comparing America to countries it has intentionally sabotaged, or invaded or f*cked up in some way, like Afghanistan, Venezuala, and glossing over America's attacks on freedom of speech through its torture and imprisonment of Julian Assange, its own horrific war on drugs, and the fact that your average American does live a hard life. To be honest I don't think I'd call America a civilized country, in the sense of any country that doesn't provide even a basic form of free health care and welfare, safety nets for everyone can't be considered civilized. It is basically happy to leave the poorest and the most disenfranchised out in the cold to die. Okay America may not throw gays off of rooftops, or whip women for being outside, but that's a very low bar to set, and again the Americans are directly responsible for crap like that in many countries around the world through backing Islamic extremists when it suits them. The only area that Maher was sort of right on, was the end argument that it is intellectual cowardice to pretend that all religions are the same, and have the exact same problems. I have obviously been fairly open about my feelings about Islam (and been called an Islamophobe by the likes of Mike for it.) Still whilst Islam IS a bad religion and needs reformed, once again guys like Bill Maher who have advocated regime change wars in these countries that have gotten rid of secular Muslim leaders like Gaddaffi, and allowed the very worst Islamic extremists to flourish IMO can't really comment. Really Maher for me is on the level of Christopher Hitchens. At one point both were genuinely counter culture when they hit upon religion, and said things that needed to be said, but gradually they were both revealed to have a very shallow understanding of politics and both became tribal about the leftists they hated, (and in Maher's case became a sell out.) That they ended up backing some of the most right wing, hawkish policies and candidates from George Bush to Hillary Clinton. (I know Maher hated Bush, but Hitchens liked him, and similarly Maher backed Hillary, whilst Hitchens ironically tore her to pieces.)

Believe it or not, Bill Maher was once in a movie with Rebecca Schaeffer back in 1988. It was a crap TV film and he was an idiot in it, but it was an interesting match up all the same.
