I used to think it was Connery too, but since my last Bond-slog around 5 or 6 years ago, I found myself enjoying the Moore films the best. I really enjoyed The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy enormously and even found Moores last film A View to a Kill perfectly serviceable. The Daniel Craig ones bored the shit out of me.

One thing I can never get around with the Craig ones is how miserable he is. Being James Bond used to be the coolest of the cool, swanning round saving the world, merrily quipping and banging hot chicks wherever he goes. But Craig's Bond is all tortured and depressed. fokk a duck.

Got to be Roger Moore. His movies are the most enjoyable, have dated the least and for me he was the best Bond.

As great as Connery was the Moore films were like a big party, weren't they?

They remind me of the original Superman movies in the fact that the films juggle humour, fantasy (more so in Moonraker's case), suspense, romance and action for two hours. The Bond movies of the time delivered on every level as far as I'm concerned.

Miserableness seems to be what some people want these days. It's more "Realistic" or something. It truly baffles me. Bond movies used to be the ultimate escapism.

Miserableness seems to be what some people want these days. It's more "Realistic" or something. It truly baffles me. Bond movies used to be the ultimate escapism. See, I tend to like realism and cynicism when handled adroitly (which is where I differ from some other members here- I love the Nolan Batman outings whereas I'm aware you don't), but even from my own metric, the Craig Bond films are shite. Stuck in the shadow of the Bourne films and unable to form an identity of their own, they're relentlessly dull and come across as ridiculous even amidst trying to be gritty, and Craig himself looks bored shitless in the bulk of them. The earlier instalments at least revelled in their oft ridiculousness (especially during the Moore era) and produced entertaining results in the process, whereas the Craig instalments are completely flat. I'll give Skyfall this: It's a beautifully photographed action film (courtesy of Roger Deakins being phenomenal as usual), but it gets progressively worse on each viewing and the script doesn't inspire in any way. Casino Royale is average at best, and the other two are absolute f.ucking shit. Spectre in particular was one of the most unmitigatedly boring action films of recent memory, and that's saying something!
