I believe The Three Doctors is the better story. Three has a more interesting story and has the added bonus of having the lovely Jo Grant too. I don't tend to watch The Five Doctors as much mainly because of its length. I much prefer the 4x25 minute format rather than one whole feature length story. The Five Doctors is good, but not in my top five favourite Davison stories.

Can't we just hold hands and accept they're both a f*ckton better than Day of the Doctor?

Silver Nemesis is better than all three of them

3 is hindered a bit more than 5 by only having 'half' a Doctor. The whole quest thing in 5 would have been impossible with fewer protagonists and I'm always impressed with the number of returning faces in 5, as well as how nearly all of them made their mark... and Hurndall did a solid job in the difficult Hartnell role.
But 3 comes close, just because of the chemistry between Jon and Pat, and the supporting cast with both.
And let's not mention Day Of The Doctor. I do hate swearing!

'The Three Doctors' for me - watching it as a kid, I loved the idea that my two Doctors (Troughton and Pertwee) had to team up to face an impossibly powerful enemy (I was a big comic book fan and this was just the sort of thing you'd see in Marvel Comics - two superheroes joining forces to take on one power-mad super villain. The Marvel connection is made further by the Target novelization cover, inspired by Fantastic Four issue 49). I also liked seeing the two Doctors getting occasional advice from a strange old man ( I was too young to remember the first Doctor). Best of all, Omega took off his mask and - existential horror! - there was nothing underneath. This freaked me out a bit but I was also fascinated by the idea.
'The Five Doctors' is OK, but doesn't have the magic or the charm of the first Time Lord Team-up. I seldom watch it.

I actually find Mawdryn more successful than The Five Doctors at being nostalgic. It also felt like a proper story rather than set pieces jumbled together.

I went for 5 even though I'll always love watching 3 which is still massively enjoyable. But in so many ways 5 feels very much like a feature length remake of 3 anyway!
I think 5 has the edge because it feels somehow much more of a proper celebration of the entire classic series what with Daleks, Cybermen, Yeti and assorted Time Lords and companions making memorable appearances throughout. It's just got loads of nostalgic atmosphere to make it one of my top 80s stories and indeed all time faves to rewatch.

I must admit I really can't stand the Three Doctors. There's so many things:
1) The Brigadier's characterisation is at an all-time low. 2) Hartnell and Troughton don't really feel like their old selves. In Hartnell's case, that's perfectly understandable. But Troughton is just written differently, with much less depth. 3) The random guest characters (the professor, the poacher) add nothing. 4) Even by the standards of the era, the production values and direction are *shit*. 5) Omega has a great backstory, but you can't take him seriously here.

I went with three Doctors it was the first plus love the mental battle Pertwee has with Omega intense stuff plus we have the real genuine article Hartnell on the screen not a stand in like Hurndall plus we get more of the Pertwee Troughton doctors banter five was good but three doctors is better .
